This little radio delivers. At first after reading the instructions, I couldn't get any AM reception, I was just sick. I live in a mountain canyon and a powerful AM is all I can get here. Then after about 15 min of being powered up, I started getting decent signals across the band. I don't know why the delay, almost like a coil saturation delay? Anyway, I am more than happy. Don't panic if your AM doesn't work for the first 15 minutes.

Excellent radio for both AM and FM reception. I primarily bought it for the AM reception and I pick up stations I hadn't before.
Excellent AM receptionVery well Built with a nice handle.Fine tune stationsAm and FM receptacles for outside antennas.
CONS
Only con which is just a small one is that I wish there was digital tuning so that you can see what stations you are actually receiving.
BEST USES
For me it's listening to baseball games from a distance that I couldn't pick up from my old radio.

As soon as I received my EP Pro, I installed batteries and switched to AM. Not expecting anything at all, I tuned to 780 kHz for WBBM in Chicago...around 800 miles away! And there it was, a clear as if it was a local Dallas station! Note that this was late afternoon in spring, not a cold winter night, when one might expect good medium wave propagation. I was amazed! And FM provided equally good reception. This is the best performing portable AM/FM radio I have ever owned. Build quality is excellent. I will continue to buy products from C Crane.
Outstanding performance and build quality.Absolutely worth the price.

This is a great radio. I'm a huge Cardinal fan who lives in Northern Illinois. This radio is able to pull KMOX from St. Louis almost 300 miles away! FM signal is great too.
Very simple to operate.
CONS
AC adapter is kinda bulky, not a deal breaker.
BEST USES
Use away from other electronics and the signal is great!

Purchased this radio for camping. Needed something portable with good FM reception and sound. Works better than expected. Batteries last way longer than expected too. Nice feature is line input. If I have access to Wi-fi can connect my phone to use as a speaker rather than carry around separate blue tooth. Would highly recommend.
Great reception and sound. Line input is nice feature. Nicely sized for portability.
CONS
Wish it also had weather band. Would be so nice while camping. My old sony had AM/FM/Weather but reception and sound weren't any where near as good. This radio would be near perfect if it had weather too. I know the DSP chip is capable. CCrane can you please add weather?
BEST USES
Camping and travel.

This is a fun radio. The sensitivity on both AM and FM along with sound clarity makes it a joy to both DX and listed to. The AM fine tuning knob does make a difference when pulling in weaker or distant stations. I like the narrow and wide band selector for AM as well. Also, customer service was very helpful when I ran into an issue when changing batteries to another set. Apparently, it was discovered that they were not all of the same strength and the radio would make a popping sound and turn off while tuning. It works fine now with a newly recharged set of batteries.
Sensitivity for distant stations i.e., DXing and sound quality.
CONS
Popping sound when turning radio on as others have mentioned. Not really an issue but noticeable.
BEST USES
DXing and portability.

This review is of both the first version - without the 9/10 khz switch - and the later version. I had the first version a few days when I spotted the newer version on the same retailer's shelves. The retailer BiMart kindly let me trade in the older version for the newer. The differences between the two are not as great as you might think. Both versions have a pop on startup but it is not as loud on the second version. The frequency readout is closer to accurate on the second version but not perfect. For either version, you must take into account the error factor in determining how far up or down the dial you must tune to get the frequency you want. Neither of these is a big deal. The false signal peaking of the first version is absent in the second version. This is not as significant as you might expect. The false peaking is an annoyance that you can quickly get used to. More significant is the spatter that a strong signal will make on adjacent frequencies, blocking weaker signals on th
Very sensitive, excellent reproduction of voice. Extremely effective twin coil antenna.
CONS
False signal peaks on first version, adjacent frequency splatter on both versions.

This is a great sounding and well built AM/FM radio. Even in the daytime in pulls in many AM stations 100 miles away in Los Angeles. Tonal quality on FM is excellent. My one disappointment is the dial accuracy. I'm not expecting digital readout accuracy on an analog dial. But my EP Pro is pretty far off. An AM station on 1070kHz has to be tuned to closed to 1200 kHz. The results are similar on FM. If you can live with this, the EP Pro is still a good value due to its sensitivity and sound quality.

CONS
-Less than optimal dial calibration.

I purchased this radio to use at a remote mountain cabin in the Sierras and it has not disappointed! I was amazed at how many more stations were out there that my old radio could not pull in. I have read some complaints about the tuning but haven't had any issues thus far. The fine tuning knob really makes a difference on distant or weak stations. So far I can listen to local stations in addition to some of the big boomers from Los Angeles and San Francisco during the daytime. At night there is a whole new universe out there. the most distant station I have received in the short time I have been using the radio is KOA, 850 in Denver Colorado.
Very sensitive radio, great for pulling in weak or distant radio stations. Has very good FM reception as well
CONS
Regarding the radio itself there are only two features I would have preferred. The ability to receive NOAA weather forecasts and alerts would have been helpful. Also I really like a digital reading of each station so that I could return to weaker stations with greater ease. But this is one heck of a radio!
BEST USES
Anywhere you need a good radio, especially if you spend time in remote areas with poor reception.

Very hard to tune with soft muting and false images. Not as sensitive as other radios I own in the same price range

As if I needed another radio from CCrane, This one caught my eye so I just had to have it. I'm very pleased with my purchase and it works Great. Stations on AM and FM come in great and all I have to do to get good reception is either turn the radio or antenna and they come in. Tuning and volume work great and I've put 4D batteries in it and leave it on all night to a quiet music FM station and the light makes a great nightlight. Easy to carry and not heavy for me at all even with batteries. I'm not sorry for buying and will keep my eye on your site to see what else I can get someday.
all I can think of is it's a great radio and works great for me. Glad I bought it.
CONS
The only Con I can think of is the power supply is kind of big and heavy. Would like to see a built in one on the radio and just a power cord to connect it to AC. This is a minor issue and doesn't take away from the radio's greatness.
BEST USES
Just about anything. Camping, household, travel, gift, etc.

Reminiscent of the days when I had a GE SuperRadio, this CCRadio-EP PRO is a real gem, excellent tuning ability, compact size with great sound.
Ability to tune in those distant AM Stations with great clarity. FM band is wonderful too, but I'm mainly an AM Radio listener. Lighted band is a nice addition.
CONS
None that I have found, the ac adapter is a bit wonky, but absolutely something I'm willing to deal with to have a radio of this quality.
BEST USES
Indoors, Outdoors, on the porch relaxing, great to have dual power so you can use it anywhere.... Well pleased!

CCRadio - EP PRO AM FM
NICE LOOKING RADIO, REALLY LIKE THE LIGHTED DISPLAY ESPECIALLY AT NIGHT AND THE FINE TUNING FOR AM IS GREAT. SOUND OF THE UNIT IS VERY RESPECTABLE. RECEPTION ON FM SUPER. A QUALITY BUILT RADIO.
CONS
AM TUNING IS NOT SUPPOSE TO BE MUTED. I REALLY ENJOY THE MANUAL TUNING OF AM STATIONS. THE ORIGINAL EP RADIO WAS MUCH BETTER THAN THE NEW UNIT IN SO FAR AS THE TUNING GOES. I AM AN OLD TIMER RADIO DXER AND THE MOST OF THE FUN OF TUNING AM IS BEING ABLE TO HEAR WHEN YOU ARE APPROACHING A STATION.
BEST USES
GENERAL LISTENING AROUND THE HOUSE AND GARAGE. GREAT FOR BEDSIDE TUNING WITH THE LIGHTED DIAL.

At first I was not sure it was better then my older one. Then one day there was a click and it seemed to work better, and it is better then older model. I find it to work better for FM especially. I added a small AM antenna and it improved reception. I must mention we are in a dead zone for reception so this radio is great as I get AM stations.
Works much better then old model. Nice size Even though power supple is larger it does not get hot.
CONS
Only that power supply that plugs into receptacle is larger then older one. But again it does not get hot.12857

Radio is well above my expectations. Even though am radio in Australia is in 9khz this radio pulls in all the am stations loud and amazingly clear. On FM it pulls in stations I could never receive on other radios. Station selecting is easy if done slowly. Sound is terrific. Thank you CCrane
Easy to tune. Clear sound. Exterior FM antenna connection helps with distant and weak stations. Looks Great.

Big disappointment compared to my first two cranes. Tuning for distant am signals is practically impossible to move your hand that small amount. When you finally zero in on signal they fade and disappear unless you re tune and after a few mins it's back to fading. Oh my power cord plug seems to be separating where the two pieces fit together.
Sound quality on nearby fm. stations
CONS
Does a pretty poor job of pulling in distant am signals at night which is when I use it and when am signals are easiest to get

No, it doesn't tune like an analog radio but it zeros in on a weak signal and makes it listenable. Both AM FM is super sensitive selective. Performs better than my Panasonic RF2200. A real bargain!
Simple to use. Tunes like an analog but receives like a state-of-the-art digital radio it is DSP!. Full-time lighted dial is great! The sound from the large speaker is excellent! Twin coil antenna nulls out locals and brings in DX.
CONS
None, once you get used to how it tunes into a station.
BEST USES

This radio looks almost identical to its predecessor, but is totally different. This new one has a different feel when tuning - go slow to reap the rewards of the radio's sensitivity - but the tuning is much more accurate than before, and the AM sound is surprisingly clear. The FM is a huge improvement, and with headphones sounds quite spectacular with no loss in selectivity. I'm glad I bought it, even though I have hundreds of radios and found it hard to justfy my purchase in the beginning.
FM tuning, sound, and selectivityGood for AM DX receptionUnusually clear AM toneEasy to use antenna fine tuning for AM
CONS
A bit large and heavy with batteries , but forgiveable to accommodate a good internal antenna, and nice built-in speaker.AM tuning takes some time to get used to. It looks like an analog radio, but tunes like a digital, so you can miss weaker stations if you proceed too quickly
BEST USES

This is a basic AM/FM radio with two add- ons that really make a difference with AM reception. C Crane's adjustable Twin Coil AM antenna and a wide/narrow switch helps bring in distant stations especially at night. It's new DSP tuning is quirky until you understand the trick in tuning AM stations, tune slowly! When the radio finds the station it locks on to it. FM tuning is spot on. If you use headphones or connect the Pro by the headphone jack to amplified speakers stereo reception is available. Sound is very good using the separate bass and treble controls.
Great DXer on AM stationsGreat soundSimple controlsNice dial light for low light tuningBatteries and AC wall wart power supplyFM tuning is spot on plus stereoExternal antenna connections on back

I ordered the latest C Crane EP Pro only to find that it would only run on brand new fullpower batteries or the AC supply. Batteries that would power any of my analog radios would not work in the EP PRO. I tested the EP Pro current use with an ammeter current draw was very high.... much higher than a true analog radio. I returned my EP Pro radio and I'll stick with myC Crane EP .version.
Not any given the issue i noted

The mish-mash of mixing products that plagued the original EP on the upper half of the dial has been fixed with the chip that the set is based upon. This is in reality, an analog dial tuning digitally 10 KHz at a time across the dial...there is no off tuning capability. This set will not receive properly in countries that use 9Khz separation of stations. A quirk of the chip is soft muting that is not as forgiving as the soft muting on the Crane Skywave radio. The radio is very sensitive, as sensitive as the rest of the 100mm antenna sets, but weak stations are muted. The result is that weak stations cannot be turned up to a comfortable volume. This is especially true on headphones...the speaker delivers a slightly greater volume. On headphones, listening to a weak station with ordinary ambient noise such as would be found outdoors would be problematic. That said, the set is a much better performer in an urban setting with a number of local am radio stations than the original EP.
Sensitivity, selectivity, tone controls, immunity to mixing products. Good antenna peaking with the provided control.
CONS
Soft muting not sufficiently forgiving.

Hoping the EP Pro would finally allow me to retire my 14 year old GE Superadio III. The EP Pro does the job and has some notable improvements. There is greatly improved tuning sensitivity, a longer telescoping antenna, and separate bass/treble controls. Thank you, C. Crane!
