AM FM Portable Radio Designed for Long-Range Reception and Audio Clarity
The purpose of the CCRadio-2E is to make weak signals strong and also to produce crisp, accurate audio for the spoken word. AM performance comes from our patented Twin-Coil Ferrite® AM Antenna and traditional FM reception is exceptional in its ability to bring in a weak station clearly. Audio can be adjusted for accurate and warm voice rendition and good musical performance. This radio also has the weather band and alert along with the 2-meter Ham band. More information about the 2-Meter Ham Band can be found at CCRadio.com/2-meter.
Since the CCRadio's original debut the external design has remained the same but there have been countless revisions inside to improve performance, durability and audio. It is one of the most popular portables manufactured and many experts feel it is the best AM radio made. It has evolved into C. Crane's flagship radio.

Finally, a strong, solid radio with great reception, ease-of-use and multi power sourcing. This is our second radio we've owned or us for a few years so we just purchased one for a 93-year-old mother who truly enjoys the ease of use!!!!

A long-time fan of Coast to Coast AM, I learned about C Crane. So glad I did. The radios from C Crane are so well designed, with intuitive user interface and logical controls. The CCRadio 2E has great audio, sensitivity and selectivity. Switching between bands is intuitive and easy. The radio does not just satisfy - it delights the listener. Bravo!
2 Meters is the perfect choice for local ham traffic, particularly in emergencies.
CONS
None! Unless you need every Ham Band that exists!!!
BEST USES
General AM/FM broadcast listening, Weather, 2 Meter Ham monitoring. Easy to live with and will be an absolute joy for years to come!

I have owned 3 of the CC radios in past years, starting with the first generation one and ending with a cc plus model, before I bought this CCRadio 2E enhanced one. I was disappointed in the performance of this newest one. There are 2 local stations here in Rochester that I commonly listen to, one is a 50KW station that still comes in fine, but the other is a lower power one that has come in loud and clear with all my past radios, but it isn't clear with this radio. The DX reception is also much more poor than my past CCRadio's.
Nice Display, good working controls.
CONS
Poor reception on lower power stations.
BEST USES
Listening to late night Radio shows.

99 of listening is on AM FM, if I'm on AM and want to go on FM, I have to toggle through the weather and ham channel to get back to FM. Very annoying.
Great value for the money.
CONS
Needs separate toggle switch for Ham Weather channels

Tried a few cheaper different brands. All were uncomfortable to either operate or program. This radio is just about perfect. The ergonomics are simple and straight forward. Clear reception here in an area where I normally get poor reception. Really like the adjustable backlight. After using this radio for the last few months, I gotta say I love it.
Ergonomics, reception, just the right size and weight. Adjustable backlight.
CONS
Would like adjustable frequency width for search on 2 meter.

OK but not Improved. Just what the manufacturer wants to sell, just what C.Crane can buy. Used to be C. Crane improved each product. Seems their just selling stuff now.
Nice unit,D batteries are a plus
CONS
Not any better than the Sangean ATS 909 I bought from C. Crane many years ago. In the olden day C 2008,Now it's just what the manufacturer wants to use. Not an improvement, just new

I love this radio, BUT I would like to see the UHF Ham band included in the future. I'll be the first customer.
This is a great radio for the price. It performs well in sensitivity and selectivity. The 2 Meter ham band is a handy tool to listen in to emergency messages and group conversations. FM performance is under-rated. AM is wow!
CONS
Seems to have overload on AM when too clost to the city,(NYC),Memory has no hold time if you dont have the batteries inside and you lose power for just a moment.
BEST USES
Taking on a trip to Virginia and still catching the NY mets game in daytime,Enjoying long distance reception from Boston to Baltimore here in Northern NJ

Very thoughtful design elements for people who actually use the radio. Up down slew steps in increments for the next am station, but knob is for digital fine tuning where needed to block out local interference from close by strong stations.
Nighttime AM is better than any. From Oklahoma can hear New Orleans Nashville Cincinnati Cleveland Chicago Minneapolis Louisville Des Moines Omaha Denver St Louis D-FW San Antonio on the stronger stations. Great fun if outside or in a building without metal blocking signals or interfering electrical static from rheostats or motion detectors etc.
CONS
None after several months of use. Nostalgic and really fun to hear such distant signals without Internet or XM etc. simple good old radio but heads and tails over cheap radios mostly sold today.
BEST USES
Long distance nighttime AM with quick switch to local weather reports and alerts FM sound and reception excellent too

Spending more $$$ on a receiver is not the best way to get good AM or FM reception. For better reception you need a CCradio and outside antennas.
Especially good quality AM receiver,Both sensitive and selective with external or internal antenna.
CONS
No external FM antenna input.,FM is like TV for best reception you need an outdoor antenna!
BEST USES

Last year I bought a small Japanese short wave radio thinking it would satisfy my needs. I did not find the AM to be any better than average (although direct entry is nice). The speaker was also too small
On AM there is virtually no adjacent channel interference. I used to have a hard time getting 1510 at night due to the strong 1520 in Oklahoma. Of course the radio has to be positioned with the AM antenna perpendicular to the desired station.,On FM I do not even have to put up the antenna to get all of the stronger local stations which makes it easier to move around the house. With the antenna up I can get even the 10 watt repeater stations.
CONS
I had bought the previous model (with the VHF TV band) for my Mother a few years ago. The circuit board holding the station preset buttons across the top cracked. Mom may have pushed them too hard. I am being very careful with those buttons.
BEST USES
Night-time AM is about as good as it gets. I have not had a chance to take it out of town but I am sure it would also do well on distant AM in a remote location.

Well worth the money for its great AM reception. Everything else is a bonus.
Wide base sits planted were you put it.,Great reception AM/FM or weather.,Simplicity of operation.,Dail display with adjustable light.
CONS
My first two CCRadios my digital display went South. CCrane states they corrected this by hardwiring displa. Hopefully this is true

This is actually a review for the CCRadioplus and not the current CCRadio 2E but I'm submitting it because I've owned the CCRadioplus for at least 10 years (maybe more?)and wanted to give a long term use report. The CCRadio is a workhorse and one of the most useful general purpose radios ever made. It fills many functions: clock radio, weather alert radio, battery powered radio, etc. Shortly after I purchased the radio the display failed. I returned it to C. Crane and they promptly repaired it at no cost. They returned the radio and it's been fine ever since. My only complainant is the display light was dim and now it has stopped working completely. The display still works but it's no longer illuminated. After many years of use, some rain, paint and lots of dust it sounds as good as ever. The FM is very good (often beating receivers with large external antennas!) and the AM isn't bad with the internal antenna and good with the addition of a Select-A-Tenna. If the CCRadio 2

This will be the sixth of this model that I have purchased. That should tell you something. The exterior is built like a tank, it is the LC display and electronics that doesn't last. Even with that I still think it has no competitors on the market.
(1) great reception. (2) heavy duty. (3) portability
CONS
(1) The LC display will be the first thing to go. (2) The electrionic goes in a year or two. (3) The connection to the powercord gets loose.

Pulls in the weak stations at night, best of all my radios. FM sound quality is great. 2 suggestions, when I turn on the light, give me the option to leave it on, same time as the sleep timer is set to. ( I like to use it as a night light ) Second suggestion, give me the option to set the default display. I like to see the frequency displayed and not revert back to the time. Make it a press and hold option using the freq button. Id also like to mention I like your big beefy power cord. How about designing a $500 version of the ccradio. Many controls to fine tune the signal along with several analogue tuning and strength indicators. ( love radios )
