Let the sun charge your batteries! This solar charger holds two Rechargeable Batteries of the same type and size (D, C, AA, AAA and Prismatic). It puts out about 150mA and about 5 volts. Many other solar battery chargers tested were unsuitable because their voltage was too low.
There is a built-in stand on the bottom of the charger, which can be adjusted so that the charger points directly towards the sun. This will allow you to get the maximum charge rate for your batteries. The meter on the top shows you the current output from the solar panel. A diode is used to block current when there is no sun so the batteries stay charged.
The solar charger will also charge 7 different sizes of Prismatic rechargeable batteries. Prismatic batteries are a fairly new battery used for some mobile devices.
The Universal Solar Battery Charger is small which makes it convenient for home, extended power outages and outdoor activities.
Weight: 11.8 oz. Size: 6.8" W x 4.5" H x 2.3" D.

I had to modify the unit to accommodate AA batteries. as the aft battery would pop up and break contact. I took a 3/4 piece of pool noodle and spray glued it to the back of the solar panel. I finally got a good charge and was able to use my camera. Since my unit doesn't have a charge indicator, I had to use the camera for the charge state.

Keep lid propped open when in use with a short stick. This can help with keeping the solar panel perpendicular to the direction of the sun.
Runs off sunlight.,Has a dial.,Charges most common size cylinder shaped batteries.
Slow to charge.,Batteries can overheat if lid is closed.
Charging smaller NiMH batteries like AA and AAA.

When you place, lets say two of C.Cranes 2500MAh AA batteries into this Solar Charger and close the lid per the instructions and knowing the 160 mA charger (if pegged into the far right red by available sun light, will require about 15.5 hours to fully charge the batteries, you are setting up your batteries to become well-baked. The plastic box contains no ventilation whatsoever. As the batteries are charged by the sunlight, they are giving off heat. At the same time, the suns rays shining through the clear plastic, is heating it as well as the air trapped within the charger by the closed lid and the batteries themselves. In short, you create a very nice oven and after about ten hours you get to see your $2.95 X 2 C.Crane batteries overheat and the outside plastic cases split open. Id suggest not closing the lid to let some heat escape. Of four new 2500 mAh AA batteries, placed in this charger, under the hot Montana sun (4,500 feet elev.), three had to be tossed out.

Excellent product - recharges batteries on the window sill as well as outside. Gives a great indication of the charging strength of the sun as the day goes on giving me a good indication of how my roof top PV panels are charging.
