RoHS stands for Restrictions on Hazardous Substances, and it's a
directive that could have a huge impact on the production and disposal
of consumer electronics. First adopted in Europe in 2006 (and later
adopted in California in 2007), RoHS restricts the use of six dangerous
substances in lots of common electronics. According to the official
RoHS compliance Web site (www.rohs.eu),
the RoHS symbol indicates that "new electrical and electronic
equipment put on the market does not contain any of the six banned
substances: lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, poly-brominated
biphenyls (PBB) or polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE), in quantities
exceeding maximum concentration values."
While some military and medical equipment is exempt from RoHS compliance,
the electronics governed by the standard are among the most common
you’ll find in your home, from radios to MP3 players to cell phones
and (increasingly) computers. In practical terms, the standard protects
factory workers at the production level, sharply reducing their
exposure to hazardous substances. The standard also has a profound
impact on the disposal and recycling of electronics, in that disposed
substances will no longer have at least six of the most hazardous
chemicals formerly found in electronics, and recycled electronics
will not expose workers to toxics as they harvest components.

A slightly larger wooden cabinet and a unique blending of audio frequencies make the WR-2 an excellent radio for music listening. The large digital display is easy to read, and has a gentle, blue LED background. An RDS (Radio Data System) decoder displays station and program information on FM. As nice as all these extras are, it is the smooth sound emanating from the wooden cabinet that sets the WR-2 apart. Features: Line-in for any MP3 player, clock with alarm, independently adjustable bass, treble and backlight, headphone jack, 5 memory presets and includes a remote control. The shipping box is marked "walnut" in error. It is a light colored wood of unknown species.
Weight: 5.9 lbs. Size: 9 3/8" W x 4 5/8" H x 7 5/8" D.
RDS is short for Radio Data System. Some FM stations use RDS to broadcast additional information to RDS-enabled radios. RDS information is usually extra digital information (usually text) that displays the name of the station or some other brief text of 8 characters or less.
If you are listening to a radio station with RDS, the WR-2s display should change from the frequency number to the name of the station after a few seconds. The letters RDS will also appear on the display.
The Sangean WR-2 Wooden Radio has 10 presets, allocating 5 for AM and 5 for FM.
The WR-2s power cord is 6 feet long.
You can set the sleep timer for 120, 90, 60, 45, 30, or 15 minutes.
