The Sangean PR-D9W is perfect for those looking for a small, portable AM/FM/WX radio with good AM reception and sound quality for its size. The Weather band, NOAA weather alert and siren are there to help you in an emergency. The large LCD backlight has adjustable illumination to give you either a bright display when needed or you can adjust the brightness to a little light so you won't be kept awake at night. The radio has a battery selector so you can use either alkaline batteries or rechargeable Nickel Metal Hydride batteries. There is a battery charger built into the radio if you decide to charge your NiMHs. Operates on AC adapter (included) or 4 AA alkaline or NiMH batteries (not included).

The display light turns off 15 seconds after the last button or tuning press is made on the radio.

How do I change the FM tuning from 200 kHz to 100 kHz?

When the radio is off press and hold the BAND BUTTON for approximately 7 seconds and the display will flash FM 200 kHz followed by a beep tone. Pressing the down tuning button will adjust the setting to FM 100 kHz tuning. Press the BAND BUTTON again to display the AM tuning step. Press the BAND BUTTON again to display the 12/24 hour setting. While the display is flashing press the BAND BUTTON again to finalize your settings.

How do I change the AM tuning from 10 kHz to 9 kHz?

When the radio is off press and hold the BAND BUTTON for approximately 7 seconds and the display will flash the FM tuning step followed by a beep tone. Press the BAND BUTTON again and the display will flash AM 10 kHz. Pressing the down tuning button will adjust the setting to AM 9 kHz tuning. Press the BAND BUTTON again to display the 12/24 hour setting. While the display is flashing press the BAND BUTTON again to finalize your settings.

How do I change between 12 and 24 Hour modes?

When the radio is off press and hold the BAND BUTTON for approximately 7 seconds and the display will flash the FM tuning step followed by a beep tone. Press the BAND BUTTON again to display the AM tuning step. Press the BAND BUTTON again to display a flashing 12H. Pressing the up tuning button will adjust the setting to 24 Hour time. While the display is flashing press the BAND BUTTON again to finalize your settings.

How long does it take to recharge my NiMH batteries in the radio?

The charging time would vary depending on the capacity of the NiMH batteries that are used. For example, our AA NiMH batteries are rated at 2200mAh for capacity, which means at a charging rate of roughly 400mA per hour it would take about 5 hours and 30 minutes to charge to full. Age and condition of the batteries can also modify charging times as well.

Can I charge NiMH batteries in the Sangean PR-D9 while it is powered on?

No. The radio must be off and plugged into the wall socket for it to charge the batteries.
