You
may have noticed this new acronym popping up on some of our products.
RoHS stands for Restrictions on Hazardous Substances, and it's a
directive that could have a huge impact on the production and disposal
of consumer electronics. First adopted in Europe in 2006 (and later
adopted in California in 2007), RoHS restricts the use of six dangerous
substances in lots of common electronics. According to the official
RoHS compliance Web site (www.rohs.eu),
the RoHS symbol indicates that "new electrical and electronic
equipment put on the market does not contain any of the six banned
substances: lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, poly-brominated
biphenyls (PBB) or polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE), in quantities
exceeding maximum concentration values."
While some military and medical equipment is exempt from RoHS compliance,
the electronics governed by the standard are among the most common
you’ll find in your home, from radios to MP3 players to cell phones
and (increasingly) computers. In practical terms, the standard protects
factory workers at the production level, sharply reducing their
exposure to hazardous substances. The standard also has a profound
impact on the disposal and recycling of electronics, in that disposed
substances will no longer have at least six of the most hazardous
chemicals formerly found in electronics, and recycled electronics
will not expose workers to toxics as they harvest components.

AM/FM Pure Performance Finally, a radio that is "just a radio!" The CCRadio-EP could be considered a super radio. There are no preset functions or clock to set, but the ease of use does not hinder its outstanding AM performance. The EP is not a digital radio, but a true "analog" radio with needle and dial tuning, so there will be some variance in the accuracy of the needle and dial. For very weak AM stations you can fine tune our built-in Twin Coil Ferrite AM Antenna. However, you don’t have to adjust the “TCF” knob to receive outstanding AM performance. The EP has a wide bass and treble adjustment range for defined music and voice reproduction. A large, 5-inch speaker is combined with a hi-fidelity amplifier and a “Music/Voice” enhancement dial to give extra clarity to AM programs. For those who live or work in a metal or concrete building and enjoy listening to a radio, we’ve provided external antenna jacks. Here's part of a note from Brad, in Findley, MN. that describes the CCRadio-EP better than we can: "I bought one for my mom who is 72 years old and has gone through more radios than I can count. She never could get used to digital anything and she can't stop raving about this radio. The reception is excellent, and it's such a mixture of modern and retro. I'm really thinking about getting one for me now." We are constantly working on improving the accuracy of the EP while still maintaining the great reception and reasonable price, but if you need pinpoint precision we would recommend one of our digital radios. Weight: 4.5 lbs. Size: 11.4" W x 7.3" H x 2.75" D. Audio review of the CCRadio-EP by Tim Hendel - (Tim is blind and records many of our audio tutorials for our products) Audio Player Press the play (►) button above to stream the audio. To download the file, please use this link. |
|
- Bass and Treble knobs can be adjusted for best music or voice rendition

- 6V AC adapter (included) or runs on four optional "D" batteries
- Super long life LED lighted dial

The AM fine tuning consists of extra circuitry and 2 extra coils around the ferrite antenna. It should be called the Quad Coil™. It is a new experimental design. You do not have to adjust the TCF knob from the default position to receive excellent AM performance. The TCF knob does have some effect for fine tuning and it will have various and perhaps curious results depending on the strength of the AM signal and the time of day. You should find the EP is one of the best radios you have used on AM. |

This is a bit embarrassing, but we built it for my mother. I asked her one day if she was enjoying her CCRadioPlus I gave her. With a little prodding she looked at me in a way only a mother can and she said: "I don’t like all the buttons". About six months later a customer came in the store in a focused rush and asked for a radio "without all the buttons... just a regular radio". I knew at that moment we had to build the EP knowing full well that success was to be measured by customer satisfaction and not necessarily money (most people have no idea of the actual cost to develop a new product, even a simple radio). I told him to come back in a year or two. He probably thought I was blowing smoke! Now back to my mother. I know she is smart. She drove safely until she was over 90 and she still continues to watercolor on a limited basis. She did not start painting until she was well into her 80’s. The point is my mother did not want to spend her valuable time learning some sequence of buttons perpetrated by a somewhat insensitive electronics expert. We’ve had a great response to this radio. One of the best was a call from a woman in charge of a music department at a university. She said she was prepared to get ripped off with the purchase of the CCRadio-EP but was wildly surprised at the audio quality alone. We have received numerous letters written in long hand in appreciation of the EP. If you’re looking for a simple radio with good performance and a reasonable price, the CCRadio-EP is an excellent choice.
|
|
The CCRadio-EP has excellent AM reception almost as good as our CCRadio-2. The EP brings simple joy back to radio listening.
|
|
A set of D Alkaline batteries rated at 21000 mAh would provide roughly 300 hours of runtime. This is based on AM band usage and if the radio is played at a moderate volume level with the display light off.
|
|
They're used as an indicator to help locate a frequency.
|
|
Try nulling out the signal by turning the radio in a slightly different direction. You can also modify the amount of signal being let in by adjusting the tone knob from Music to Voice setting. Lastly, try adjusting the Twin Coil Ferrite tuner knob.
|
|
First, check the back of the radio and make sure the Internal/External switch is set to Internal. Next check the Twin Coil Tuning Knob to make sure it is in the center position.

I purchesed the Ccrane EP,out of the box it looked great and the sound was good. Two weeks later after minimal use
The radio would no longer adjust stations. Upon removeal of the back case it was clear that the radio was un repairable.Ccrane stated that they would replace it after i sent it back.
It was a seventy-nine dollar radio, and my time is valuable, between that and the headakes. It is just not worth it.I am very disapointed and would not recomend this radio.

I bought one; it did not work at all. I had no trouble returning it and getting a replacement. Unfortunately the replacement did not work well. Very "scratchy" tuning. Tuning drifts easily. Each time I turn it on I have to retune very precisely to get reception. I can not recommend it.

I have posted a technical analysis here: http://earmark.net/gesr/ccep.htm
Since the GE Superadio series has been discontinued, this is the logical replacement. I have found this equal to the GE SR's in terms of reception. Some models of GE are slightly better on some stations, the CCEP is superior on others. The narrow IF selectivity setting of the CCEP is much narrower than the GE SR3, giving the CCEP a huge edge on selectivity. The tunable twin coil antenna also aids in separating out closely packed stations. Only the SRF-59 with its 50 kHz IF is superior in selectivity. It is nice to have stereo FM capability through the headphone jack, something missing on the GE radios. FM performance is better than the GE series, bringing in rimshots with ease. Hooking to an external antenna produces astonishing reception for a portable. I have not experienced the instability some reviewers have noted, but using the radio outdoors in the narrow IF position on hot days does produce some drift, forcing you to re-tune in extremely critical situations.

This very abused radio rides around in the back of my vehicle full time. I take it out at parks, the beach, working in the garage, and poolside. I run it on battery almost exclusively. I have great reception and audio with conditions I am sure it was never intended for. I would give the AM reception a 5. The FM I use to receive the XM radio in my vehicle parked nearby often, and can pick up the very weak XM FM transmitter from inside the car at nearby picnic tables with ease. Another great product by CCrane. :) hope this didn't void my warranty :)

I am very disappointed in this radio. It has some excellent features that I and others in the house really liked. But it has a major problem and that is it will not hold a local station for very long and then we cannot find it even using the helper knob in the side that is supposed to bring in stations clearer. CC Crane needs to go to work on this problem. We have six other radios in the house and not one of them behave as this one does. Stations drift some but not just totally loose it and than cannot tune it back in.

I am very satisfied with my EP radio. I had an original CC Radio that I purchased many years ago and it had finally been beaten into submission after years of faithful use and abuse. This radio is exactly what I wanted. I like listening to Giants games on KNBR from my home in Red Bluff -- the games come in great, day and night, indoor and out. Both bands get clear, clean reception -- good sound quality. I like the analog tuning -- you can tweak it here and there. The fine tuning knob is fun to play with but not something you use a lot. This is a great, elegant, high performer at a great price!!! I have already recommended it to two close friends.

Disappointing and inferior to even an old GE Super radio. Unlike my Super radio, this one drifts; when you turn it on, it is always off from the last tuned station, and while it is on, it has to be frequently re-tuned. I had hoped for near-CCRadio performance without having to deal with a dead LCD display, but this radio is not a contender.

Used it for the first time last night. It worked beautifully, pulling in distant AM and FM stations very clearly. Overall it reminds me a lot of my old GE Super Radio III. But its smaller and better with a back light for the dial, an AM fine tuner and a switch for turning the optional external antennas either off or on.

I am writing this letter to tell you how much I appreciate the use of your CCRadio-EP. For sometime I had been looking for a radio with good sound and one with merely the basic components; names a dial, on and off switch and volume control. I shopped in many of the big-box stores, etc. but could not find what I sought. I did not want any extraneous features. Then, I heard one of your commercials on the radio, sent for a catalog and there on page 12 I found the CCRadio-EP. The sound for both music is fine for a radio of its size. Thought you might appreciate hearing from a satisfied customer.

I bought this CCRadio-EP because the two ''best'' CCRadios that I bought in the early ''90s have dead LCD screens and it is so hard to find stations after the power is disconnected then plugged back in. Difficult even to locate the AM band. So I decided to get this radio with the analog needle. Now I won''t have to worry about losing the LCD screen. Only just received it and barely turned it on. Great sound and gets a couple of far away stations I can''t usually get. That''s all I can say right now so I don''t know yet about the ''drift'' some reviewers are complaining about. Incidentally the two 20 year old best radios made by CCRadio still work great once I can locate the proper band and find my station. Does anyone know what the ''EP'' stands for?

I just wanted to send an email to tell you how much I like your CCRadio-EP. I was given one as a gift recently and from the moment I opened the box and began to look at and operate the radio it was obvious that it was a high quality item. I find the controls to be superb and the sound quality and convenience of the input for a phone is quite handy. Thank you for making a quality, basic product that isn't a slave to fashion. I had been looking for such a radio for some time and am happy to have found this. Only one small suggestion, though, and that is that when the handle is up for carrying, the antenna is in contact with the handle when the antenna is positioned straight up. A little space there would be helpful. All in all, a pretty minor quibble. Thanks for a great product.

I’ve just re-discovered the joys and wonders of AM radio. I’m an old dude, and back when I was a youngster all we had was AM. So all the mid-60’s hits were played on the trusty old transistor. This radio is a throwback to that time. Just a radio, with a tuning knob and station bar. No bells or whistles, no LED, no station memory. It’s fun to spin the dial, and tweak the tuning. I’m pulling in about five times as many stations as before; some obscure smaller somewhat local ones within about 90 miles. A couple of them play just oldies and that’s been a treasure trove for me. I can close my eyes and be back in the 60’s again. It’s like a little time machine.
And now the negative. Well…… there aren’t any negatives. The only suggestion I can make for improvement is to possibly add a sleep timer.

Great reception on both bands, can get distant FM with antenna completely retracted. Fine tuning, together with bandwidth switch helps obtain weak stations or those close to powerful ones, including one with automated weather not in local or area station listings. Can hear local area stations that reduce their power at night, even in adverse winter conditions when other signals on the same channel interfere.
Kept batteries fresh in the fridge over summer and fall in zip lock bag to protect from condensation and in case of battery leakage within the bag. Took them out again with threat of extended power outages during heavy snow. Noticed that radio didn't vibrate with batteries in.
Rate this radio as an unregretted purchase, highest on your scale, plenty of margin at both ends of both bands, minimal risk of dial string strain, rich single speaker sound, a bonus jack to test with and improve the sound from other devices, sound easily fills a studio apartment without turning volume high, extended useful battery life.

Hello, I purchased a Crane CC EP radio in December and love it so far. It is a very high quality, simple to operate radio--just what I was looking for. I wanted to compliment your associate Tim Hendel who convinced me to buy the radio during his audio presentation on your radio. This is a unique idea and certainly sold me! It is a quality machine, easy to use and sounds very good. I will be purchasing additional items from your company in the future.

Howdy, I have had the opportunity now to try your CCRadio-EP in many different locations, many of them remote up in the mountains while hunting or camping. I just wanted to tell you that this radio is excellent, the reception is much better than any other portable radio I've ever owned. My Dad also purchased this radio, and for an old geezer it is easy for him to operate. Thanks for making a quality product. I will definitely recommend you folks to my friends. One thing I will point out, though, is that it works much better on battery alone, when it is plugged into the wall socket it seems to have a background hiss that is difficult to block.

Everyone talks about the great reception and ease of use this great radio has, and it''s all true. But, during a recent move I dropped it about 3 feet onto hard pavement. Trust me I was mad at myself. After finally settling in, I turned it on and was sure it wouldn''t work. To my surprise the only thing wrong with it was a minor scratch and a missing button. It still works flawlessly and I even managed to find the missing button. In an age of cheap products, it''s nice to know that CCrane makes outstanding products that not only work well but are tough!

Purchased mine for $50/00 at Pacificon in Santa Clara from C Crane this last weekend. I am disappointed with this radio''s AM performance; particularly above 800 KHz. Station overload is tremendous and cannot be attenuated in order to hear weaker signals. Stations such as 1200 AM (KYAA) Monterey, and 1530 (KFBK) Sacramento cannot be hear at all because of the overload of other local AM stations in the San Francisco Bay Area. I''ve compared this radio with my Panasonic RF 2200 and Zenith R3000-1 receiver. Both the Panasonic and the Zenith pick these stations up as if they were local. Again, the C. Crane could not pick either one up; and this is just an example of two AM stations I listen to. There are many other which also cannot be heard with the C. Crane radio. If you have an alignment procedure with this radio I can see if I can rectify this issue. If not, this radio would be a good rural listening AM radio, but not in the inner city limits. FM is wonderful and both selectivity and sensitivity are great. No overload on the FM dial.

We had trouble with our first EP, station would drift!! C Crane, sent us another one, fine but it also drifts. We listen to our local KMED, in Medford, that happens to be the Station for Coast to Coast Talk Radio. The Oldest Station in Oregon and they also advertise C Crane. However the Radio Drifts for the first 1/2 hour. We bought it to pull in the station in our Motor Home but we can't even get KMED, two miles from the Station.

I'm a longtime SW and MW DXer from Baltimore who recently purchased two of your CC Radio-SW receivers and one of your new CCRadio-EP. I'm thrilled with the purchases. On my first night with the EP radio, with the slight aid of a Radio Shack Tunable Induction Loop, I pulled in a 1,000 watt AM station from Georgia with pretty solid signal strength and clarity. I'd arrived home late from work, and just wanted to give this a "test drive," and made this reception as a lark. I'd never even HEARD that station before. I also own several of your Twin Coil Ferrite AM Antennas.... I love the antennas. My goal during the next warm weekend is to see how to mount the ferrite bar unit outdoors, and with some elevation. I think that will really enable it to bring the AM band to life. Or I may keep it indoors, but find a way to mount it high on the wall of my house.

I''ve had my CC-EP for about a year---and have used it just about every day. I''m a collector of radios, particularly the nice vintage sets. I decided that I wanted something new, but with a more traditional layout (i.e. analog tuning instead of digital). This EP quickly became one of my favorite radios. It''s extremely easy to use, right out of the box. Sound quality is great for the price point----and it really pulls in the stations, particularly on AM. Build quality is on par with other newer radios---which is to say it isn''t a mid-1970s Sony or Panasonic, with the heft of a boat anchor and plenty of chrome and other metal----but I''m impressed with the materials and finish considering the affordable price. This is a terrific everyday radio. Sometimes the simplest ideas are the best---a basic radio that anyone could figure out without a manual, with strong reception and nice sound, at a fair price. Strongly recommended.

Recently I purchased my first CCRadio, the CCRadio-EP. Wow! I have been a radio fan for over 35 years now and have owned many a radio in my day. I decided it was time to buy a radio from the best radio company in the world. I was going to order the CCRadio plus, but then I saw this on your website. I have to tell you that this is the greatest radio on the planet earth! I live in a small one stop-light town in Southwest Missouri and since I got this EP radio, I have been able to listen to the Kansas City Royals baseball games on my am dial, something that was hit and miss on my many other radios. I have about 35,000 old time radio shows in mp3 format, collect and listen to them now for over 15 years, and with the EP i can plug in my iPod touch 4th generation device and listen to them through the EP's speaker! I can't tell you how much this makes me happy also, besides the fantastic am reception! Best radio ever I swear! I love the design, the feel and the overall quality of this radio. It is truly amazing and I just wanted to say "Thank you" for producing and selling such a wonderful radio! Thanks again!

This is a five-star radio for sure. It''s sleek, it''s modern, it''s old-school, and has perfect reception. I bought one for my mom who is 72 years old and has gone through more radios than I can count. She never could get used to digital anything and she can''t stop raving about this radio. The reception is excellent (never even have the antenna up since it''s just not necessary), and it''s such a mixture of modern and retro. I''m really thinking about getting one for me now. The LED light is such a great feature, as is the fine tuner. Just a couple of buttons, dials, and switches are what make this radio so simple. I can''t recommend this radio enough.

I really like the latest addition to your line-up. It was worth the six month wait. I liked it so much that I ordered another one to give to a good friend of mine as a Christmas present. Sensitivity on the AM band is exceptional and almost as good as the CCRadio-2. Sorry to have to say this but the fine tuning for the AM twin coil ferrite antenna is useless. It does not good, especially when fine tuning a weak station next to an adjacent strong station. However, I'm happy to state that it's not offensive to me since the CCRadio-EP has exceptionally good selectivity so it isn't necessary. I just leave the knob in the middle detent position for the best reception and I don't even bother to use it anymore. I especially like the tone of the speaker with a nice, clean response across the entire audio spectrum. Also, I like the music/voice switch. When it's in the "music" position, the wide band audio on AM sounds almost as good as it does on FM!

Hi, my wife was looking for a quality bedside radio and I got her a CCrane EP radio. Both she and I were surprised at the quality of the radio. Also I enjoy medium wave radio and the EP radio matched up well against my old Sony 2010 radio in sensitivity. Keep up the good work!

Before I ordered the CC Radio-EP I read all the Reviews and Testimonials, giving special attention to the negative ones.
The primary reason a few owners did not like the Radio was because of Frequency drift. But some frequency drift is to be expected on
the FM Band of an Analog Radio without AFC (Automatic Frequency Control). The question is "how much drift is there"?. There is only
one way to find out, so I ordered the CC Radio-EP. Now I have the answer.
When the Radio is turned on it should still be tuned to the station it was tuned to before it was turned off.
The EP is not, BUT, in a very short time, if it was tuned to a strong or moderately strong signal, it will drift back to the
station frequency by itself. However, if the signal is weak, it may be necessary to retune the radio. The following is a summary of
my opinion of the performance of the CC Radio-EP

with the fine tuning control. (I have a very strong signal on 1120 AM, and it interferes with a signal on 1160, but by
using the tuning control there is significant improvement. I am very much impressed with the dual coil ferrite antenna
performance).

This is a superb radio! I just bought my second. A friend was so impressed with it, I gave it to him and ordered another for myself. Excellent sensitivity and it locks onto signals, strong or weak.
The lighted dial is a really nice touch. Battery life seems to be excellent. I am pulling in stations hundreds of miles from where I live. I am impressed with the audio fidelity of this radio.
My only nitpicks are it sometimes drifts from the station you are listening to, and on my second EP, the silver strip located below the tuning window is loose on one end. Other than that, no complaints.

This CCRADIO-EP is the best radio I have ever had. I only have 4 or 5 local AM stations and I can?t move the dial without picking something up clearly. Even Wyoming before dark. The FM is crystal clear too. This is the radio I dreamed about.

Great Radio strong recption. Fine tuning works better with external antenna. Leave on setting for twin coil with internal antenna. Only improvement I would like to see is vernier reduction on tuning dial. This would help in tuning in weak stations. Very satisfied will buy another

The ccradio-EP is a simple, classic radio with cutting edge tech going for it. This is no whimpy radio. It feels very solid, and works as well as it looks. The backlight dial feature is very useful if you use this unit in a low light area, and the tuning knob is very accurate. The radio will reach out and grab weak stations with ease. Bottom line, it works, and works well. 100% worth the price if you want a get-it-done no non-sense radio, with decent sound quality.

Received my CCRadio-EP today. Just wanted to tell you what a great radio this is. I've spent the last four hours just playing with it - tuning around, seeing what I could hear. It's very sensitive, selective, and the sound quality is very rich and wonderful. The coolest thing about this radio? The dial light stays on when on battery power! I have dozens of high-end portable radios, and very few of them has a dial light that stays on more than a few seconds when on batteries. This is a subtle touch that only a true radio buff would understand. Thanks, Bob Crane. The EP will sit on my nightstand to entertain and inform me for many nights in the future. And put off the same kind of warm glow that my old tube radios did. You hit a home run with this product.

I recently purchased a CCRadio-EP. This is an excellent radio. Simple and effective. I also have a Sangean PR-D5 that I use for DXing. The CCRadio-EP is superior. The sound from the CC beats the Sangean in every way. I was running the CCR in my office today and a friend stopped to see me, he asked me if that was a CD playing, he was very impressed . This is the 4th radio I have purchased from C. Crane. I also have purchased several of the CCTrek flashlights some as gifts to friends of mine. This is without a doubt the BEST flashlight ever. C. Crane gives us excellent service and good products you can''t beat that.

I purchaced my (orphan) radio via the toll free number on 2-9-11 as a birthday present to myself. The person I delt with on the phone was very nice, knowledgeable, and helpful. My radio arrived on time, and has performed as advertised. For some unknown reason AM signals are at best difficult to recieve in our home, but the EP holds a signal very well and is crystal clear. It works well with both local and distant stations. So far the most distant signal I''ve tuned in is KFAB, Omaha, NE in the evening, some 1300 miles away. It isn''t unusual to listen to LA, Reno, or Sacramento stations here, but Omaha surprised me. I''m very pleased with my orphan!

What can I say that hasn''t been said before about this radio? It is a superb piece! Is it normal to receive stations from as far away as Cuba on AM band? Well, I do. I live in deep South Texas and not only get stations from Cuba, but also Acapulco, Mexico City, Tulsa OK, Dallas, New Orleans, and more far away places. The Twin Ferrite fine tuning is simply amazing! Trust me, you have to try it. This radio blows away my original GE Superadio. In fact, it blows away every radio I own in terms of AM reception. The FM reception is quite good too. It delivers a pleasing clear and powerful sound, much like the Superadio. Its construction reminds me of a well-built vintage unit. Again, its much like the original Superadio. This radio exceeded my expectations in every way. Oh, and if you call CCrane, you actually talk to a person and not a machine! Superb customer service! My experience has been perfect in every way.

If you prefer,or are looking for a solid am/fm no frills radio this
may be it. I found that am reception is outstanding, and fm reception
is top notch too. While there may be no reason to use an additional
antenna for am,the one i have puzzles me. I just happened to flip the am
antenna to external to see how it affected the reception, and the radio
seems to go dead, nothing at max volume. So, i wondered how hooking up
an external antenna could possibly work? Seems this is not right. On
the fm side, the reception was affected, but i could still pull in
a few stations with volume. I suspect that there may be a possible short
or something wrong with the am part of the switch. anyway i do not plan
to use an external antenna, as the internal antenna works like a
charm.......a good solid, simple radio you just can not find in your
local stores.

Well we waited 5 months with great expectations for the CC-EP radio to come in...we are an oldies club in Connecticut and were frustrated trying to listen to great oldies stations like LNG on Long Island with our old radio then a small miracle happened...your radio finally arrived and it proved to be everything we hoped for in performance and more...now we enjoy our favorite oldies on those weaker am stations with little or no static and through a speaker with beautiful sound quality...we call the CC-EP "super radio"...please use this letter to you as a testimonial on your website to the best am/FM radio in America!

Very nice radio, pulls in distant AM and FM stations. Very good audio quality. I haven''t had a need to use the TCF knob to fine tune.
The only thing that keeps me from rating it 5 stars is I have noticed a tendency to drift on AM. Other than that, I have no complaints.
I highly rate C.Crane. In addition to the EP, I own the SW and SWP, very fine radios in their own right.

The station needs adjustment several times within several hours. It does not hold it''s station setting once it is turned off in the evening and turned on in the morning. I got tired of adjusting the station dial and returned the radio within several weeks of receiving it. I do not recommend.

To Bob Crane and his engineers, here is a review of EP that I put into e-Ham a few days ago. I hope you will find it useful! This radio is reviewed based on CCRadio-EP's performance in Queens, New York City, a difficult rf environment, loaded with 50kw local stations: 660 WFAN, 710 WOR, 770 WABC, 880 WCBS, 1010 WINS, 1050 ESPN, 1130 WBBR, 1190 WLIB, 1280 WADO(50 kW day), and 1560 WQEW. I used a GE Superadio III as a "benchmark", or, rough comparison. Both radios fared pretty much equal. Audio response defined primarily the difference between these two radios. CCRadio-EP pleasingly favors more mid-range and high frequency audio response, giving a very perceptible clarity, while the GE SR III has more bass, with the mid-range brought out by diminishing the bass response. Selection of "voice" (narrow BW) on CCRadio-EP sometimes further cut through interference. Daytime testing involved reception of a selected (for their relative difficulty) group of radio stations on the ends of the band. My house has high definition TV's, cell phone chargers and computers, which at times virtually destroy reception of most out-of-town and some local stations (WABC and WINS get the TV buzz saw!). At times these things are not in use, leaving only the house wiring and the aluminum siding to produce one nasty effect: most stations come in from only one direction. Results: WICC, 600 from Bridgeport, listenable. WTIC 1080 Hartford received, but somewhat noisy for continuous listening. WPHT 1210 Philadelphia, listenable, good. Small oldies rock station from central-southern New Jersey, 1410, listenable, good, a "nice catch". Reception basically equal on both receivers up to this point. However, for the CCRadio-EP, the end of the band, from 1530 to 1700, is rendered useless by WQEW, Radio Disney 1560, not even allowing in the least, reception of another local station, WWRL 1600! In fact, all stations above 1560 suffer that same fate. The exterior tuning trimmer helps marginally, at best. I fail to understand why a tuned front end rf stage was not designed into this radio, with which it could have trumped the performance of most of the other competitors on the market. The GE S R III handled these same frequencies above 1560, utterly impervious to Radio Disney's presence there. Most of the other vintage transistor radios in my collection do the same. In all fairness, CCrane-EP does fine in this location at the high end, if 1560 is nulled out off the end of its ferrite antenna. Moreover, nowhere else on the BCB was this overload problem found. Selectivity of both at night is adequate, with WJR heard next to WABC, and WHAM 1180 heard next to WLIB 1190, and therefore, so on. I want to recognize the CCRadio-EP and the Superadio III as basically well crafted long distance receivers, worth being listened to, in order to come to a decision based on one's own preferences. Without the high end problem, the CCRadio-EP would deserve a 5. In light of the overload I would call the performance a solid 4. The GE SR III also gets a 4, not for its performance, which is itself a 5, but for its catastrophic AM dial calibration. Mike Rogers KC2TOF 73's!

I'm Kevin Shields and I am totally blind and am employed at the Winston Salem Industries For The Blind in manufacturing.
My CC Radio EP came last Monday, and I've been blown away every time I use it. Today we had an ice storm which made the streets treacherous, and impossible to get to work, so I took 2 hours to do a side by side comparison with this CC Radio EP with 7 other radios I have in my collection that have excellent AM's. These radios are,
Panasonic RF2200
Grundig Satellite 750
Grundig E5
Grundic Yachtboy 400
The first CC Radio
GE Super Radio 2
GE super radio 3
The AM on the CC Radio EP is as good as the AM is on both GE Super Radios, The Panasonic RF2200, The First CC Radio and the Grundig E5. But with the antenna trimmer on the CC Radio EP, you can zero in on a weak station and it brings the signal in very nicely, and gives it a bit of a kick so it sounds great.
As for the AM on the Grundig Satellite 750 the CC Radio EP blows that one right out of the water. And The AM on the Grundig Yachtboy 400 isn't quite as sensitive as the AM on the CC Radio EP. But again that antenna trimmer makes all the difference in the world.
I live close to a couple of AM stations that, when they're on full power splatter quite a ways up and down from their main frequencies, but with the antenna trimmer, that pretty much takes care of the splatter problem.
I found that the FM on the CC Radio EP was much better than the GE Super Radios, in selectivity and that the CC Radio EP picked up stations that those GE Super Radios couldn't receive.
As for the first CC Radio, The Panasonic RF2200, Grundig E5, Grundig Satellite 750, and the Grundig Yachtboy 400 The FMS were pretty much the same, great selectivity and excellent in pulling in weak stations
The only criticism I have on the CC Radio EP is when you connect an external AM antenna and push the switch to external, even with the external twin coils antenna, the radios performance is practically worthless. Even when I tuned the external antenna to the same frequency as was on the CC Radio EP, the radio didn't pick up the local signal like it did with the radios built in AM antenna. As for distant signals with an external antenna, it was worthless.
As for an external FM antenna, I used the CC FM in door Reflect antenna and the CC Radio EPs performance was as good as it is with the radios built in telescopic antenna. But with the telescopic antenna I had better results of zeroing in on a weak station, and receiving it with less noise than with the CC FM in door reflect antenna.
As for the selectivity on the CC Radio EP on AM it's excellent on the low setting, but it's not bad on the high setting. But the high setting gives this radio a richer sound quality than on the low setting. Even with talk, to me it sounds better on the high setting. But the antenna trimmer gives better results in eliminating splatter from strong local stations on the low setting.
In summery, the $69 was a great price to pay for an excellent AM FM analogue radio.
Once again CCrane has put out a high performance AM FM radio for a very reasonable price.
Ask Santa to put one of these radios under your tree for Christmas, believe me you won't be disappointed.

My critique of the CCR EP is that is an excellent radio. I think the A.M. is better when fine tuned than my CCRSW, and the FM is just as good or better. The only weakness is that with a very, very strong A.M. station, it blocks out the signals for about 30 khz on each side of the signal. This can be substantially improved by detuning the fine tuning. Wonderful radio.

Hi y'all, I want to say I'm a very pleased customer (again) with my recent order from C. Crane. If it has anything to do with AM or shortwave listening, I've ordered just about everything in the C. Finally, a simple, excellent AM radio with AM fine tuning, good audio and a tuning bar back light! Happy Holidays!
