- CCRadio-2 (Black Mica)
- AC Power Cord
- Instruction Manual
- One Year Limited Warranty
|
The radio designed for long-range AM Reception and now Emergencies! The new CCRadio-2 has the same familiar look and layout as previous models of the CCRadio but with even better AM Reception and the addition of the 2-Meter Ham Band. The boost in AM performance comes from our patented Twin-Coil Ferrite® AM Antenna, and other improvements built into the CCRadio-2. AM stations continue to sound just right, thanks to audio that's optimized for voice clarity. After you select a station, the CCRadio-2 evaluates the signal for several seconds and then locks in for the highest signal possible. FM reception is a little better than the CCRadioplus while the Weather Band can keep you informed of any government-issued alerts. The addition of the 2-Meter Ham band may make the CCRadio-2 a life saver during an emergency like hurricane Katrina. Two Meter Ham operators are early on the scene and they donate their time while handling perhaps 90% of emergency coordination efforts. The CCRadio-2 can act like a simple radio scanner and search the five memories for ham operator communications. The sensitivity (squelch) can be adjusted for best results. More information about the 2-Meter Ham Band can be found at CCRadio.com/2-meter. The CCRadio-2 comes in our original Black Mica or a new Titanium color. It features a brighter, clearer LCD display with a full backlight and three levels of adjustable brightness plus an "off " setting. Five years ago we made changes to the durability of our CCRadio LCD display that have proven to be robust. Other features include: 5 memories per band (AM, FM, Weather and 2-Meter bands), adjustable display light, adjustable bass and treble, clock alarm, sleep timer, auto scan, stereo headphone jack, line-input jack, and line-output jack. Weight: 4 lbs (without optional batteries) Size: 11" W x 6.5" H x 4" D. Purchasing the CCRadio-2 as a gift? When a CCRadio-2 is purchased as a gift, we recommend our Gift Box to ensure your present is a surprise. Otherwise, consider shipping the package to an alternate address.
Note: This gift box contains no markings, however we are required to include a shipping label indicating the package is from C. Crane Company, Inc. |
|
A fresh set of 4 "D" Alkaline Batteries will provide roughly 180 hours of runtime if the radio is played at a moderate volume level.
|
|
The power cord is 6 feet long.
|
|
Plug a device, such as a portable CD player or mp3 player, into the "AUX IN " jack, located on the back of the radio. Then hold down the "Band" button for three seconds. The radio will beep and you will see the word "AUX" in the display.

Love this critter! Weather, great AM reception and rich, bassy, great-sounding AM and FM. I haven't troubled myself much with the Ham band but it picks up Jones and a few others with factory presets, a good thing because I wouldn't know where to start to find working freqs. It goes a long way with a set of batteries if you remember to turn off the weather alerts and LCD backlight. It's a heavy beast with the four D-cells, but when you use and hear it, you'll know why that weight is there. This box locks freqs without the drifting common to regular radios, even in AM. Gripes? Minor. I wish it had a fold-out handle, but the case-incorporated grip is ok, just. The antenna is difficult to pull up from fully stowed, the lack of normal clipped horizontal antenna storage a consequence of the lack of a fold out handle, I suspect. Also, the power button and backlight button are VERY easy to to inadvertantly turn on, but all these are minor gripes, a little care is all you need on the switches if it's on the batteries. And if it's on wall-power, who cares anyway? This is a fabulous multi-band digital receiver, it sounds great and I wouldn't trade it for ten of another make.

AM reception is very disappointing. Also I purchased this radio thinking it was made in the USA but I had the box sitting on a table and I walked by and noticed it said "Made in China" on the side by the bar-code!

Great workhorse radio. My favorite radio. The features are well thought-out, and the AM reception is superb. I like playing around with the HAM radio frequencies. The sound quality is also superb. Although a few extra presets would be great, that's my only wish, and it's minor.

I have had at least five AM radios within the past 6 years in an attempt to gain better AM reception in my area, and never had much luck, until now! My CC Radio 2 arrived on August 11, 2011.
What a great Radio!!! I highly recommend this radio. The reception is fantastic! It has all the features you could ever want on a portable radio. This radio does everything they said it would, and is very well constructed.
The FM, short wave and weather radio is fantastic! If you are considering purchasing this radio.....DO IT. You won't be sorry.

This radio is awesome for what it is designed for, listening to AM radio. One improvement would be to add built in rechargeable batteries. D batteries are kind of old hat. The battery compartment is poorly designed as well.

This is a great radio except the "2 meter band". My radio has never picked up a station on 2 m and I use it in the Chicago area. I do not see a way of hooking up an external antenna to the 2 m band. I have an Amatuer Extra license so I like to think I am not using it improperly.

Impressive, Well Made Radio.
My two previous clock radios were purchased from a well respected chain but over the years they dropped most of their branded radios from the shelves despite their moniker. The CC Radio 2 (CCR2) has a level of sophistication and quality feel well above my previous purchases and time will tell if it was worth the expense from a quality standpoint. The controls and functions of the CCR2 were simple to learn and easy to get used too in fact I can find all the necessary controls at night and in complete darkness just by putting my hand on and navigating around the radio. The three stage display back light is a nice touch although the display could be larger and the black segments of the numerals for the clock and frequency could be larger (fatter) in order to be more visible at a distance of 6 ft to 10 ft away especially in daylight. This radio can pull in stations that were previously unavailable before and the stations’ I was getting are clearer now but my location and region are not conducive to quality AM reception to begin with. I am however able to program, into the push-button tuning, frequencies that play my desired broadcast so if one is poor I can try the other. The CCR2 also helped to identify that my Netbook not my 2.4 GHz phone has been a long standing source of noise in my AM listening. I grounded the radio from the AM antenna ground connector to a receptacle plate’s screw, in theory this should ground the radio and isolate more of the noise, and this eliminated some but not all of the interference and not the noise from the computer. The CCR2 also cuts through atmospheric noise better than any radio I have ever owned, a distant thunderstorm no longer entirely ruins my listening experience and the weather band is clear as a bell so local emergency broadcasts are no longer a scratchy noisy mess. Finally I have been able to find one local HAM broadcast in my area on two separate frequencies. I find their subject matter occasionally objectionable, due to my background and education, but it is clear as a bell when they are broadcasting.
Great Radio! Yes, I would recommend CCrane to my friends (if they could ever stop watching TV). Those WiFi radios interest me also but unfortunately I have Hughes.net and, because of this, I am out in the cold with a lot of things like VOIP and streaming media broadcasts. Plus they throw in a double whammy with their "fair access policy" and expensive service (food for thought with respect to CCrane's WiFi radio sales: Antitrust laws, fair broad-band access in rural locations, etc.)

I bought my first CCRadio-Plus when C.Crane first offered them, I now own four. The radio is well-built, the controls are uncluttered and easy to understand, and the AM reception in particular is outstanding, I live in the Antelope Valley about 90 miles north of L.A. and I can receive all my favorite L.A. radio stations. Thanks C.Crane for yet another quality product!

Received this great radio in late 12/11. Took it up to Roseville, CA (approximately 100 miles from San Francisco) and got great AM radio reception from San Francisco radio stations that previously faded in and out in the nighttime hours. This radio did not fade in and out. This is a workhorse radio that is well built. Weather band reception is great also. In summation, this is a great radio unlike any other that I've owned. Call in C Crane customer service department when ordering this product was quick, easy, and the staff very courteous, friendly, and extremely knowlegible.

Hello, I just want to say thank you! I had a few questions about your CCradio-2 that I asked after the hurricane we got over here in New England this summer (we lost power for a week and didn't have a good AM radio that could get reception). I don't have the email that you guys replied with so I don't have the persons name that answered my questions. I put the CCradio-2 on my Christmas list and my wife got it for me. It is truly an amazing radio and worth every penny. I am ready for our next storm! Your prompt customer service is the reason I went with CCrane. I rate the CCRadio-2, 5 out of 5 starts! I also love that you added the Ham band. Best radio that I own! Please keep up your great work. Take care.

This past summer, folks in my area were forced to evacuate due to the Monument Fire that destroyed 80 homes. I was one of the lucky ones, but as I was evacuating I realized that I didn?t have any portable or emergency radio other than what was in my truck. It was time to remedy that.
I looked at a number of available units and read the reviews. There are numerous radios available for emergency uses and the CCRadio-2 was one of the more expensive radios available. In spite of that, I did choose your product and I am very pleased that I did.
In spite of the dollar difference between various radios I learned very quickly that the CCRadio-2 with its capabilities is, in the final analysis, not as expensive as cheaper models. I live in an area where due to geographical features, radio reception on both AM and FM is marginal at best. At least that?s true for most radios. Your fine product now enables me to listen to some of my favorite FM stations.
You have created a quality product at a fair price. I hope that is not necessary to need the emergency capabilities, but I am confident that should the need arise, I am prepared.

After 10 or so years of faithful service, my CCRadio got beyond repair. A good excuse to get the new CCRadio-2 in black! My wife ordered it from Amazon. It's a solid and dependable a radio as ever...but the wonderful surprise is the 2 meter band. I am a member of a 2 meter ham repeater that I listen to in the background for many hours a day. The sound on my little rig is pretty bad. So I dialed in the repeater's frequency...they were providing communications for a wilderness marathon on Catalina Island. The reception on the CCRadio2 was WAYYY better than on my ham rig. It was a total delight...except for the crashing noise between transmissions. What a shame, I thought, that the radio has such a fine receiver and NO SQUELCH to eliminate the natural radio noise between transmissions. I was about to write you. IF COURSE, I had not read the manual...after all, I had owned the same radio for 10 years. I was greatly and happily surprised to find a Squelch hidden in the tuning knob!! And it's a great one. I spent the whole afternoon listening to the adventures of the marathon in the rain and fog on Catalina Island. Thanks to the Catalina Repeater Association BUT MOST OF ALL thanks to CCrane for yet another wonderful radio. By the time this one wears out...you probably will have a Moon/Mars base radio band! Best wishes from Santa Monica.

I love this radio. It is solid in construction and has many well thought out features. I can pick up AM signals with this radio that I could never get with any other radio. I am extremely pleased with this purchase. Thanks Crane.

This is the gem of the C. Crane Company line up. AM sensitivity is extraordinary! The only drawback is that selectivity on AM band could be better. Fortunately, I am usually able to overcome adjacent frequency "splatter" (modulation) by nulling out the offending strong local signal. FM is OK. I like the seven NOAA channels, especially the severe weather warning feature. The ham radio feature is very nice with exceptional sensitivity! I'm able to clearly pick up a repeater located fifty air miles to the west of my home with the rod antenna extended fully inside of my house! A ham friend of mine expressed amazement that my CCRadio-2 is able to receive the signal so well without assistance from a high-gain outdoor antenna.

I''ve owned 3 CCRadios--the original, which I bought when I lived in Washington State, traded up to the "plus" when it came out, and I still have that one. It''s a great radio and the newest incarnation isn''t necessarily an improvement!
I found a CCRadio 2 at an estate auction about a year ago and had to have it. It includes the Twin Coil Ferrite antenna, a powerful AM reception tool. I have used the Justice antenna since it became available. Mine still works like the day it was new and gives me perfect reception of distant stations that otherwise would be unlistenable.
But the CCRadio 2 deletes my most favorite feature from the "plus:" the ''D'' battery charging circuit. Now, that''s understandable given all that new Justice hardware under the hood. And C. Crane is a stickler for radio performance and if that means the sacrifice of some battery charging convenience, well then you be the judge. I generally put a set of rechargeables in both radios. I don''t run them on AC at all. When batteries on the ''2'' give out, I''ll swap them for the ones in the ''plus'' and charge them in that radio. It pretty much lives in my home office where the Justice antenna can work its magic.
The CCRadio 2 comes with me--when I''m doing chores, listening to talk radio while working on a car or a project of some kind, working on a client''s computer system.
Almost no day goes by when those radios aren''t playing. C.Crane, you have given me so much more than my money''s worth, it can''t even be estimated. And when the display on my ''plus'' went on the fritz, your service department replaced the display free of charge, and the thing works as well as it did when it was new.
If you''re reading this, you probably know what the CCRadio series is about--it''s about hearing Rush or Sean or sports radio on the am band, free of rf interference from poorly-designed radio components. It has a fine FM band, but that is an afterthought. AM is this baby''s wheelhouse, and it kicks butt in that regard. I can listen to Rush on the podcast on my iPhone now, and I do that. I also have a thing called an iSongbook from Tivoli that not only is a great iPod dock but also has a kick butt AM section that rivals the CCRadio in clarity, selectivity and low noise. It''s also rechargeable, smaller than the CCRadio and has a detachable stereo speaker that expands its mission far beyond AM.
But the Tivoli usually sits, unloved, on a shelf. It''s not the workhorse that this radio is. It does a good job of recharging my iPod classic, and plays its music nicely in the bedroom it''s in.
Look, C.Crane will not need to redesign this radio for years. Take away the "TV" band since there''s no tv sound on it anymore. Maybe some expanded weather functionality--but that''s not the core mission of this product so nixing the tv band is all the updating it really needs. AM radio is a venerable vehicle that has performance requirements today''s electronics have all but forgotten. Between Wi-Fi, digital conversion, video processing, hard drive storage, multiple sound chips in operation and the associated power and connection circuitry to make it all work together, there is so much noise emitted in the AM band by the typical modern sound component like a home theater receiver or ipod speaker that the AM band is almost not worth supporting because all you hear on it is static from all the other stuff going on.
The CCRadio cuts no corners in its thoughtful circuit layout, isolation and shielding of noisy components, and careful design of each component likely to cause interference in the AM band. The result is one of the very best AM radios you can buy at any price.
If AM is your priority, this is your radio.
Period.

I got the CCRadio-2 as a Christmas gift this past year and I absolutely love it. The first thing I noticed when I unpacked the unit was how well built this thing is. It has a very solid feel to it and it''s also asthetically pleasing as well. I''m one that switches radio stations all the time, so the digital tuner was a must. The sound from the radio is very good as well. And then there is the absolutely incredible reception. There is a station in our town that I listen to often, but for some reason I was only able to pick it up in my car, so I tried several so called "top of the line" radio''s from other manufacturers. Unfortunately they were not able to pick up the station either. All I got with those radio''s was a mixture of radio signals all rolled up into one annoying noise ball. Finally I gave in and paid the extra bucks for the CC-2. Folks, you get what you pay for. My CC-2 picks up that hard to receive station loud and clear and with no interferrence from other stations. In fact, I don''t even have to extend the antenna to get the station. I am impressed. One other thing about the CC-2 I love is the weather band. During the spring and summer months my wife and I spend as much time as possible out on the lake in our boat, and the addition of the wx band will help prevent us from getting caught in a surprise storm. The CC-2 is a great unit. Is it a bit pricey? Yes. But if you want a quality built product, the CC-2 is the way to go. I like it so much that if something were to happen to my current radio, I would purchase another without even thinking about it.

My first impression of the radio, based on only a few hours of use, is that it is going to be a source of long term listening enjoyment. I mostly listen to a radio once I am in bed and all lights turned off. The CCRadio-2 with its digital tuning and my favorite stations in memory will make nighttime operation a joy! Thanks for a great product.
I continue to be delighted with my CCRadio-2. A few years ago I discovered AM740 which is broadcast from Toronto, Canada. I live in Connecticut which is a fair distance away from Toronto. Over the years, I had tried to enjoy the station's playing of old tunes and radio shows. I say "tried" because my former radio could not hold the signal; the sound would drift in and out...out, mostly. Many times I could hear nothing. However, with my new CCRadio-2, the sound is strong and steady. I am having a wonderful time listening to the music and radio shows I enjoyed during my younger years. I am 72 years old. The radio station AM740 is now under the number 1 Memory Button. So, when I retire, turn off the lights, I can press Memory Button #1 to dial in AM740. I press the Power Button to obtain 30 minutes of playing. Most times, I am asleep before the radio turns itself off.
I have not yet experimented with the 2-Meter HAM mode, but will be doing so soon.

I recently purchased the CCCRadio-2 and am fascinated with its long distance AM performance. I listened to a station in Cedar Rapids during the day and it came in very clear. I live in Chicago and have never had this experience with other radios. I am totally blind and the radio is my entertainment. Thank you for such a wonderful product. I’ll definitely tell others about it. Keep up the good work.

I recently order a CCRadio-2 for my father in law and myself for father's day, and we were both very impressed by the quality and craftsmanship of the radio, and the excellent reception on all the frequency bands. I have especially enjoyed the 2-meter HAM frequencies. I have pulled in several local HAM operators, and I am even considering getting my Technician Class Amateur Radio license! In addition, I was so impressed by your company, customer service, and your products, that I decided to get another radio (the CC Observer) so I can take one of your fine radios with me camping, fishing, etc. The Observer, also makes a great addition to my Family Emergency Preparedness Kit. Thanks again, for making such great products, and having great Customer service. Also, thanks for keeping your business here in my home state of California... I will be recommending your company to anyone I know looking for an outstanding radio!

I just want you to know how absolutely pleased I am with my CC Radio-2. I've had the radio for about 5 days now and I love it! I also own the original CC Radio which I purchased in either 1999, or 2000, as well as a CC Radio-SW which I have had for a little over a year. As a radio collector, the particular radio which in my personal opinion was my benchmark for pulling in those distant medium-wave stations was the Zenith Transoceanic (royal 3001). I also always enjoyed any of the t600 series or the H500, both of those being vacuum tube models. The Royal 3001 is the solid-state Transoceanic which appeared I believe in around 1963, and was manufactured in to the 70s. The CC Radio-2 blows them all away on medium-wave. It is absolutely amazing! Each year, my wife and I usually take a 2 or 3 thousand mile driving trip. Over the years, and over many trips I have always brought the old original CC Radio because using it is the easiest and fastest way to obtain local weather information where ever we happen to be from the National Weather Service using the "NOAA" channels. The CC Radio-2 will be the radio of choice on future trips for sure! Congratulations once again on an outstanding product, that for all I know, may acquire the legendary status of the good old Zenith Transoceanic.

I recently received my CCRadio-2. I have a radio in every room and you’ll be pleased to learn that none of them, including my BOSE, can match the sound fidelity I enjoy with this fine CCRadio-2. I’ve tuned both AM and FM and amazed at the clarity of both bands. It is so easy to set up and the controls are convenient and user-friendly. All in all, I’m a happy C. Crane Radio owner and will certainly recommend this product to my family and friends. It would be unjust not to mention the excellent and courteous service from your phone representative Debbie. Thanks for a great product from a great company.

Last December my lovely wife presented me with a new CCRadio-2 as a Christmas gift. I was delighted to receive one, as I had been wanting to own a CCRadio for a number of years, but had delayed purchasing one primarily due to the cost. I had read many online reviews about the CCRadio line and I was struck with the overall satisfaction most owners had expressed with the product. I’ve been a “radiophile” for many years, and have worked everything from crystal sets to amateur radio gear. I always seek products that demonstrate both superior performance and workmanship. When I learned that the latest refinements to the CCRadio incorporated both the 2-meter amateur radio band and the Twin Coil Ferrite antenna system, I was ready to take the plunge. At the time I received the radio, I resided in east-central Arizona, but I relocated to Missouri soon thereafter. The robust performance of the CCRadio exceeded my expectations at both locations. In Arizona, medium wave stations from the Phoenix and Tucson areas (roughly 200 miles) were received easily during daytime hours without the aid of a tunable loop antenna or long wire. At my present location, roughly 60 miles east of Kansas City, I can easily receive daytime signals from St. Louis, Omaha, Topeka, Ft. Dodge, IA and countless other locations around the region, all without the aid of an external antenna, and with surprising clarity. FM reception is excellent as well. Having been an amateur radio operator for more than twenty years, I appreciate the addition of the 2-meter band and the radio’s scanning capability. Also, the weather alert feature will be of great value during the upcoming severe weather season. I have made use of most of the additional features of the radio and find them to be useful and simple to operate. After two months of using the CCRadio-2 at both locations, I wanted to let you know that this new model hits a home run. Thank you for providing such an impressive product to a customer that is generally hard to impress. I heartily recommend the CCRadio-2 to anyone who is serious about maximizing their listening experience.

I have held off on sending this until I returned from hunting camp where my new CCRadio-2 got its real test. I purchased it to replace my old CCRadio. I was pleasantly surprised at the improved reception on both AM and FM as well as the improved display screen, controls and 2 meter band to replace the TV channels. I am sure you do not want to put this in your sales pitch but the case on my old radio, with a couple of snips, fits the CCRadio-2 like a glove. Very impressed,

My CCRadio-2 is great. The AM reception is fantastic. Living in WNY, I can pick up 3 NYC stations, Philly, Chi., Det., Louisville, KY and even Nashville. We have XM radio but with FCC lowering signal, our new FM transmitter permits us to listen to XM anywhere in our house and even in the garage. And Rollye James comes in much clearer as well. Thank you for including 2-meter HAM in the CC Radio-2. As HAM radio operator KC5OZT, I have been involved in emergency communications over the years, including Katrina. We were getting calls about people trapped in attics, that day the levies broke, and no way to relay them into New Orleans from Texas until a HAM parked his RV outside a State Police Station, in Baton Rouge, I think, that had a contact with the New Orleans police. We were finally able to relay the addresses in, thanks to 1 HAM in an RV.
Another thing you might publicize is people can follow Skywarm nets on 2-meters in severe thunderstorms. The will hear about a funnel before it is announced on TV, as the spotters report them to the weather service.
Again, thanks for everything and your support of HAM Radio.
Very sincerely yours,

If you enjoy AM radio listening, the CCRadio-2 is for you. The built-in twin coil antenna really amplifies each incoming AM signal. I live approximately 220 miles from the AM station that I use to hear my favorite baseball team's games. I could hear the station using the GE 3 radio and the original CCRadio. However, the signal was not strong enough to get over the noise. This radio, however, places the signal way above the noise floor. My guess is about 6 DB's louder. The CCrane Company is really doing a great job making AM radio enjoyable for all of us. Thank you for all of your hard work, CCrane.

I received my order today in a most timely manner, considering the new CC Radio 2 was just developed and shipped. I put it through its paces--along with several of my 2-meter band portables and its reception was clear and true--to over 20 miles, using repeaters of course. I think is was an absolutely ingenious way to substitute the [analog] TV band for the 2 meter band. The new CC Radio 2 is far superior than the old and in only a few hours am enjoying it immensely. The CC Witness has proven terrific in recording internet broadcasts from the C. Crane WiFi Radio I just purchased and am enjoying it just as much. Well done! Despite the very few minor glitches I've had with C. Crane in the past, you've always made MORE than good on your promises and fixes. No other company I have ever dealt with has had the customer service you have. None. I've dealt with C. Crane for MANY years now and have never, ever been disappointed with your merchandise. You describe it thoroughly; it performs exactly as you say it does. Every single penny I've spent with C. Crane has been money well spent. Again, I will continue to recommend you to my many friends and many of them (over 20 I know of) have become regular customers of yours over the past decade or more. I look forward to your new innovations and will order them as them come available. Thanks again, and I wish you and C. Crane the very best in this tough economy. But you guys obviously have the talent to pick the products that Americans need and want. And please give Mr. Crane my best. As a marketer, he is a genius. Also know well that C. Crane is always free to quote me in their catalogs, publications, etc, with or without attribution and without compensation of any kind. That's how good I think your company is. Very best regards,
