This is a digital recorder/player that works similar to a classic tape recorder. It has a nice LCD display screen that folds up or down for best viewing angle. The button layout is simple and to-the-point for quick recording and playback. The sound is good for playback of audio files but is more geared for talk radio fans. For music, it is also good but lacks much bass. The DAR-101 will record from a radio, TV, computer, cassette player, telephone, phonograph, microphone, or just about any other audio device that you can think of. It will even record meetings, conferences, and lectures at ease with the built-in stereo microphones. The sensitivity of these microphones can be set to "low" for recording loud concerts or "high" for recording those quiet board meetings. Using a special cable, it is compatible with the CCRadio-2 and CCRadio Plus models for easy radio activated recordings. There is another cable included for recording those important telephone calls from a landline. Using a timer, the DAR-101 can be set to automatically turn on, record for a selected amount of time, and turn off when finished, every day of the week. All recordings are saved in MP3 format for easy transfer to a computer or other portable device. The recording level is adjustable for setting the loudness ahead of time. There is also a record balance for adjusting the audio between the right and left speaker channels. Instead of tapes, it uses standard digital SD cards (not included) that can hold many hundreds of hours. With a 4-gigabyte SD card, you can record for over 120 hours at standard quality 64kbps (kilobits per second). For higher quality recordings, you can adjust the recording quality to 128kbps or 192kbps. Selecting a higher kilobit per second recording rate will increase the quality but will also use more memory space. Since digital recorders tend to use batteries quickly, the DAR-101 has a built-in charging circuit and power adapter for rechargeable NiMH batteries. Other features include a built-in clock, headphone jack, digital coaxial output jack, line-input jack, line-output jack, 1/4 inch MIC inputs for right and left channels, WMA file playback, USB port for playing flash drive files, voice activated recording, and automatic track creation after 30, 60, 120, or 240 minutes. There are also various repeat and playback options. Runs on 4 "AA" batteries (not included). Comes with: 9V AC Adapter, carry case and phone patch cord for recording. Weight: 2 Lbs. Size: 7.1" W x 2" H x 5.2" D. |
|
The charging time would vary depending on the capacity of the NiMH batteries that are used. For example, our AA NiMH batteries are rated at 2200mAh for capacity, which means at a charging rate of 500mA per hour it would take roughly 4 hours and 24 minutes to charge to full. Age and condition of the batteries can also modify charging times as well.

No.
|
|
No, the USB connector is for playback of USB flash drives. It is possible to play files stored on the flash drive of the CC Witness via this connection as well.
|
|
Typically no; the recorder utilizes all 6 pins of a standard telephone jack. Most telephone extension cords we have found only come with 4 pins.

You will want to check your cables. The DAR 101 has the same standard color coding on its line in/out jacks as a typical radio and not those of a recorder. If you are using color coded cables you will need to swap the colors (ex: red to green and green to red). The cables should be running from your radio’s Line-Out to the DAR 101 Line-In and if used, the cable from the DAR 101 Line-Out should be running to your radio’s Line-In.

Just received my DAR-101. I ran it through its paces and found everything worked (did not try phone recording). For what I bought the unit for, I am very impressed. Easy to use and set up.
I wanted a unit that I could play talk show download files and it worked great using a USB flash drive memory stick. I also tried recording from my computer (on line radio station talk shows live streaming)... worked great. I didn't have a SD memory card so I improvised, I used a Micro SD card, using the standard SD card adapter; it worked great for recording.
I have another unit (iKEY-Audio) that I bought somewhere else and it doesn't have half the features the DAR-101 has. It would only play files that you recorded on the unit and would not play download .mp3 files without renaming them to the units file system. That unit didn't even come with an AC adapter; I had to search the internet to find one. I am very pleased with the DAR-101; it comes with everything you need with exception of special adapter cords. The unit is well made, not cheap looking, or operation buttons that are hard to use. Way to go C.Crane.

Nice recorder, advertised by Sangean and others to be compatible with the CCRadio SW, Sangean ATS-909/909X, and RS DX-398 for timer based recording that is launched by the radio. The problem is, the "Special Cable" required to do the timer based recording does not exist. It is not available from Sangean, CCrane, or RadioShack (or eBay, Amazon, or anywhere that I could find on the web).
You may be able to fashion your own. I ran into a jack spacing problem on the recorder and radio when I tried to use 2 existing cables.
It would be great if CCrane could contract to have some of these cables made-up, as this is a required accessory needed to do timer based recordings with one of the advertised radios.

I''ve used This recorder for about 6 months to capture music and voice via the line input. I''ve had no issues with the recorded quality for music or voice. At 192k the music I record seems to be equal to that of a CD. I find Battery life to be good, I do use a set of rechargables with it, I like that they give you the "charging" option for that. I have had no SD card compatibility issues even the ones you get at the "bargin" places. The internal speaker sounds good and I have used the digital output to stream directly into my larger sound system. Overall I''m very happy with the recorder for the price.
