AM FM Portable Radio Designed for Long-Range Reception and Audio Clarity

The purpose of the CCRadio-2E is to make weak signals strong and also to produce crisp, accurate audio for the spoken word. AM performance comes from our patented Twin-Coil Ferrite® AM Antenna and traditional FM reception is exceptional in its ability to bring in a weak station clearly. Audio can be adjusted for accurate and warm voice rendition and good musical performance. This radio also has the weather band and alert along with the 2-meter Ham band. More information about the 2-Meter Ham Band can be found at CCRadio.com/2-meter.

Since the CCRadio’s original debut the external design has remained the same but there have been countless revisions inside to improve performance, durability and audio. It is one of the most popular portables manufactured and many experts feel it is the best AM radio made. It has evolved into C. Crane’s flagship radio.

Pros
Reliable
Easy to use
great reception
longevity
Cons
Not one complaint after 20 years of service!
Whether camping all over the United States or sitting on my nightstand, this radio is ALWAYS reliable. I also very much appreciate how easy it is to use. Nothing fancy or confusing! On-off-timer-set stations, you don't need to be a techno-geek to use this radio. Thank you, C. Crane!

How good is this radio?
The CCRadio Enhanced 2E is so good it's ridiculous. It performs in the daytime as advertised, and at night it's a great DX radio. The noise floor is low, it's sensitive and selective. The radio not only sounds great through the speaker but also sound great with headphones and even earbuds. We have a local AM music station here with a good signal and processing, it sounds wonderful on the 2E Enhanced. This is a sturdy radio with a lot of electronics. I have an RF-2200, a Superadio II and III the 2E Enhanced is right up there with those classic radios. C Crane is a great company, who else would build a radio like this during the age of cheap electronics. The 2E Enhanced is worth the price. If you don't have one, get one! I can't imagine how anyone could be disappointed in the least. Another great radio from C Crane.

The best AM performance I can receive.
Was amazed the sound this C.Crane Radio 2E provides especially when it comes to AM, and the AUX plug option is a huge plus. Can not give this radio enough praise. There is obviously a reason this is their flag ship radio.

MY SECOND C CRANE RADIO
Pros
cant find better than a C Crane Radio
Cons
batteries will corrode and ruin the radio.
Best Uses
I use my radio every day
the clarity is great the range of options is fabulous and I always feel safe knowing I can get weather reports for several sources on the radio.
Everyone needs to have a C Crane Radio, no matter which one you choose to have, all will serve well. When the batteries in my first radio corroded and leaked it ruined the radio, I didn't hesitate to purchase another one. Now I check the batteries more frequently because they'll last forever it seems. I remember to replace them, even tho they aren't dead. Superior radio in every way. Can't go wrong owning one.

Best AM, FM, radio Iv'e ever owned!
If you are looking for an AM radio that can bring in weak and/or distant stations the CCRadio 2E radio I recommend highly. I live twenty miles west of Boston but love an AM radio station that has a very week signal. All other AM/FM radios that I have owned gave me nothing but static when I tried picking up that weak station. The difference with the CCRadio was that I finally could hear the station but there still was some background noise. I then decided to by from C. Crane the Twin Coil Ferrite AM Antenna Signal Booster for $99 dollars and that addition made the signal crystal clear! Love it!

The radio sounds good. Good quality sound. I bought it primarily to listen to AM radio. I wanted something that would pull in those long distance stations. This radio did no better than every radio I own, including a 70s era beat up old radio that I have. I expected so much more from a $169 radio! I owned the CCrane EP radio, but got stolen. The EP was an excellent radio, but I wanted digital tuning. That's why I bought this one. I'm very disappointed. It's 2015! One would think radios would be so much advanced by now.

Versatile!
As a field engineer for electric utility company, I needed a radio for use in the office and in the field. I wanted it to have the WX channels to keep me constantly alert to weather conditions while in the field. I must say this radio was cleverly designed. I love the hidden handle rubber grip on the back. Makes it easy to handle. This radio has every feature I could think of. The AM reception is incredible. The radio locks onto very faint AM signals. Highly recommend this radio!

This is a Great Radio
First, I would like to thank C Crane for their GREAT Customer Service. I had the original CCRadio for almost 20 years. I played that radio everyday usually all night long listening to C2C. It was a great radio! I have had my new CCRadio 2E Enhanced for about a month and it exceeds all my expectations. Great sound and range. It is everything C Crane say it is. Love It!

Pros
Really does get stations farther away!
Cons
Don't have any now
Love all the features on this radio. Some other reviewers have had certain problems like the radio taking a second to zero in on the signal. That has not bothered me at all. It is a very very short period of time and it does produce a better signal. If after I use this radio for a longer period of time and I come up with some Cons I will post them here

A very good radio for AM reception
Pros
AM recption is excellent
Cons
FM sensitivity is lacking. My car radio far surpasses this radio in the number of stations it can pick up. I have not been able to pick up anything on the ham band
Definitely a good radio, especially for the AM band. I have been able to pick up 50 thousand watt stations as far way as 250-300 miles away during the day. FM lacks sensitivity. Good crisp audio. I enjoy the weather radio.

Great sensitivity and selectivity!
The AM has great sensitivity! I live in S.W. Alabama and can pick up sports radio 620 in Tampa easily during the day. Bleed over is minimal next to local stations. The FM is great too! Theres a local station on 98.3 and 98.7. On a good day I can pick up a station from Panama City, Fl. easily on the exact frequency. In other words, I dont have to tune it in more precisely to hear the station. Best selectivity Ive ever heard on FM. The only thing I dont like is not being able to hear FM Stereo on the weaker signals. You have to have a perfect signal to hear stereo. Overall, a great radio!

A STELLAR PERFORMER! :-)
Likes: This is the radio of my dreams! Why? Its its performance that I find very satisfying! Its the most sensitive set Ive ever experienced. The audio reproduction of both voice and music are clear and full. I know, I know those are very subjective observations, but if you understand how a high-performance set should perform, then Im betting youll truly enjoy to the fullest the CCRadio 2E. On AM (MW) with this set in Central Florida, I regularly receive daytime ground-wave signals up to 250 miles distant. My CC2E is so sensitive that it will sporadically receive sky-wave signals during midday hours. For example, I have received clearly from Daytona WCBS 880Kc in New York City. Before I got this radio, I thought that sky-wave signals were entirely absent during midday hours. I have observed that the CC2E handles reception of locally strong signals quite well also with no overloading issues. Locally strong signals splash over about 13Kc of their designated frequencies, but the splash can be nulled entirely by rotating the set. The FM reception is equally impressive with startling good sensitivity and stunningly good selectivity. It handles inner-city FM signals better than anything Ive previously used. Dislikes and wishes: In my opinion, the CC2E is long overdue for needed updates to its physical attributes. I desperately wish the CC2E had frequency input keys. As is, it has up / down arrow keys for tuning. While it has a rotatable tuning knob, it is only useful for fine tuning. I have circumvented this shortcoming by utilizing the five memory preset buttons as a crude Q-tune system enabling quick jumps to various sections of the bands. I also wish the CC2E had a ferrite bar that could be rotated independently of the main body of the set. As is, the most effective way of rotating the set for best reception is by placing the radio on a lazy Susan. Despite these concerns, I still regard the CC2E as the holy grail of portable FM and AM radios! Wayne :)

My new favorite
The Good: Superior AM reception. In my remote small town, during daylight hours this radio picks up about twice the stations of my others. FM reception as good as any other. Quality sound. Decent battery life. A built in AC power supply. Not only is it convenient, it is electrically quiet I dont notice any more electrical noise using the AC cord than I do on batteries. This is unusual. Solid, sturdy. It has a deep finger slot in the back which serves as a reasonably secure handle. Superior sound quality, which is also adjustable using bass and treble controls which have significant effect on the sound. Weather radio works very well. It uses D cells, which (if youre using alkaline disposable batteries) last longer than AA cells. (If youre using NiMH many of them dont contain any more fuel than a NiMH AA cell, or may only BE an AA cell in a larger casing, so depending on brand the rechargeable D cells wont have much more power than AAs. They may not have any more power at all.) The Bad: About 3/4 of a second of muting as you tune from one AM frequency to the next. This prevents rapid band scanning for weak stations, since you have to pause and wait on each frequency to see if there is anything there. Unlike many radios now on the market, this set has no built-in Ni-MH battery charger. According to the manual you can use NiMH batteries, but they dont charge internally. The shape of the radio is not-quite-square curved and sloped in several odd ways for no particular reason. The result is not especially attractive. The digital display insists on going to clock after a few seconds. It would be good if you could choose whether you wanted it to be a clock or to stay as a radio frequency display, but this feature is not provided. The Indifferent: This is a big radio, which you may like or may not. It picks up the 10 meter ham band. The old model picked up analog TV audio. Thats gone now, so they had to give you something to take its place, I suppose. If you like listening to hams natter endlessly about antennas and the weather this feature is for you!

I Love This
I attempted to buy the earlier version two years ago at Universal Radio in Reynoldsburg Ohio. It didnt work out as the power button on the demo stuck. This time it worked out. It is all promised and all owners say it is. Its sensitive and selective. Might be my imagination but it seems more sensitive at the lower end of the AM band than at about the X band (maybe due to that giant ferrite bar). The sound is pleasing. The display is bright. The ergonomics are good. It is heavy and stable. I dare say it is 808r more as good as my Drake R8A in the AM band, and easier to carry on DXpeditions.(I havent done that yet.)The FM band is decent but I dont dwell on that band so I am not sure. The 2M band is promising but I found nothing tuning up and down. Im not sure if you can scan that. The weather band is useful but at first try it seemed to get only one station whereas the Bearcat scanner got five or more. Maybe I had a bad location. It works well with a wire antenna coupled to it via another coil. It tunes to 520 kHz and I think I heard NAVTEX at 518 kHz beating against a NDB at about 515 kHz., sort of a pseudo BFO. Its the best portable I have ever bought. It has an interesting habit of pausing on each new station and fine-adjusting the gain up and down to a suitable level. I have never seen that before and it makes it seem sophisticated. I recommend this radio. One oddity- the local 1340 kHz shows up ( as an image I think) at 1430 kHz, and even at night no other signal is found at 1430 kHz. Ill need to cross-check this with the Drake to verify the slight malfunction.

I ordered a CCRadio 2E and received a radio that was not marked as the new "enhanced" version. After a call to CCrane, I was told that my radio was the enhanced version but CCrane ran out of the new 2E speaker badging so put on the old badging. That said, I find it disturbing that any company would do such practice and that I should take the word of someone on the phone. Furthermore, I find the FM reception not discernibly better than my 18 year old Panasonic portable radio, which was very expensive at the time, but FM reception was noticeably better than the cheap hunting camp GE radio that it replaced. AM reception was only slightly better than my old Panasonic radio.I recently returned from my father's upper peninsula hunt camp where I did have the opportunity to listen to some AM sportscasts and the reception was good with minimal fading. I was glad for that since receiving distant AM stations was my primary reason for this purchase. The enhanced radio has good sound quality for a portable radio but nothing more. The overall build seems solid...well, as solid as a plastic box can feel. The tuning dial has a somewhat precision feel, the volume control is silky smooth, and the front panel buttons work as you would expect. The optional carrying case fits well, looks well, and is a good idea for a radio that will not just sit on a shelf. It does, however, seems odd that anyone should need to by a case for a portable radio. It should come free with a "portable" radio or at least build a real handle into the chassis. This radio equipped with batteries is not light and a rear indent for gripping gives the radio an unbalanced feeling and is not adequate for transporting.Considering the price and hype on this radio, I would give this radio a 3.5-star rating. Overall, the radio is good and should be around for many years to come. But in my opinion, unless you need very good AM reception, you can find a suitable portable radio for far less money especially when you add the cost of a $30 case that is needed to make it truly portable.

Received this radio in a timely manner, well packed and in good condition. I love everything about it from the simplicity of use to the fact that it has a lot of power to bring in weak stations, both am and fm. I live on an island on the Texas coast and have had problems receiving some stations even with my large stereo/cd combination, but this little gem pulls them right in, and the sound is very realistic. I have not tried the 2 meter ham band yet, but I know already that the weather and is fabulous, clear as a bell. I could not be more pleased with my purchase.

  • How long will a fresh set of D-size Alkaline batteries power the radio?

A set of D Alkaline batteries rated at 21000 mAh would provide roughly 250 hours of runtime. This is based on AM band usage and if the radio is played at a moderate volume level with the display light off.

  • How long is the power cord on the CCRadio-2E Enhanced?

The power cord is 6 feet long.

  • How do I use the "AUX IN" jack on the CCRadio-2E Enhanced?

Plug a device, such as a portable CD player or mp3 player, into the "AUX IN " jack, located on the back of the radio. Then hold down the "Band" button for three seconds. The radio will beep and you will see the word "AUX" in the display.

  • How long do I have to change the batteries before I lose the clock and memory information programmed in the radio?

The battery indicator will display the battery level for approximately two seconds when the radio is switched off. After removing dead batteries for replacement, you have approximately three minutes to replace the batteries before your clock and memory information will be lost (if the radio is not plugged in).

  • This WiFi Antenna is hands down the best. It allows me to connect to a business almost a half mile away. Two months time and this baby paid for itself. I am a very happy with my purchase.
    — John A., Mill Valley, CA
  • This radio deserves five stars because it sounds great, the ease of use and preset stations. This radio will become your favorite radio, also backed by great customer service if ever needed, thank you very much.
    — Pete P., Santa Rosa, CA
  • This is an excellent internet radio. I have had the unit playing constantly from the time I received it. Excellent sound for such a small unit and the remote works wonderfully.
    — James H., Richmond, BC
  • Good sound, lightweight and comfortable; not too tight on the head. I like one feature; it doesn't tell you where to place the speakers, left side or right side.
    — Harry W., Manassas, VA
  • I purchase this product specifically for AM recordings and it has worked superbly. I wanted to wait awhile before I gave my opinion on the product. It has worded exactly as advertised and more.
    — Jack L., San Pedro, CA
  • Very nice, economical home lighting. If you're used to the white light of fluorescent bulb replacements, these will offer the same type with no toxic ingredients or damaging UV radiation.
    — Gary B., San Francisco, CA
  • This antenna does work well; however placement and the shape you have it bent into is very important. I live about 70 miles away from Toronto and receive a lot of Toronto FM stations static free with the FM reflect.
    — Thomas S., Buffalo, NY
  • I'm not sure how I gone this far in life without it. I just love it. The best sound ever from an AM radio.
    — James G., Springfield, MA
  • This device is awesome. As a contractor, I can not access my customer's network for security reasons. Now, with my office on the second floor, I can connect to a WiFi hotspot 1.5 miles away and my signal strength is strong!
    — Robert S., Tabernacle, NJ
  • I just received my EP radio yesterday. I'm totally impressed with the old school simplicity and the modern day sound quality. Thank you, C.Crane!
    — David C., Raleigh, NC
  • I have had only one, thank the lord, occasion to use this in and emergency situation and it worked flawlessly. Only one in the area with radio for two days of power loss... Thank you CCrane!!
    — Vernon P., Dufur, OR
  • This radio is totally fantastic!!! It will provide service in any condition and works as engineered and advertised. I am going to order more units for all family members.
    — Glen B., Bethlehem, PA
  • This radio is wonderful. Small but powerful. Several years of service and no problems.
    — William B., Litchfield, IL
  • Just received this little jewel... did not open the manual and I was listening to NPR within minutes... no kidding. I'm a radio guy and the audio is great and look forward to a lot of great listening.
