Perfectly simple and simply perfect - F. Hopkins

I bought this radio because I was frustrated with the various digital radios we have in the house. Those radios glow all night long, will play all kinds of media, from am/fm radio to CD to MP3, have preset stations, have a clock, and are so complicated to use that I waste a lot of time adjusting them - and then the reception is not good. The worst part is when the power flickers or goes out and then you have to reset the everything.

Now comes the C. Crane radio and voila! it works right out of the box! Just plug it in, turn the dial to the station you desired station, turn the dial to the desired volume, and you are greeted with great sound, clear reception, and if the station needs tweaking, just turn the dial a bit and it clears up. I particularly like the light - if you want the dial to light up push a button to turn it on. The dial is placed horizontally at the top of the radio, it has a nice white back light, the numbers are easy to see, the station poiter is a red vertical strip that moves as you turn the knob. Simple, easy to use, easy to see, and it does what it needs to do....

A Good Radio Should Be Easy To Use

The radio that is "just a radio"!

The portable CCRadio-EP could be considered a super radio; built for ease of use and outstanding long range AM performance.

"Upon receiving this product I was so pleased it stood up to the description provided at the website. This is the third radio I have purchased for my 89 year old mother who wanted a simple am fm radio with very good sound and reception, but the first to have the qualities she wanted. It has those qualities and more, but remains simple to operate and easy to see to operate for a person with slightly impaired vision and hard of hearing. Thanks for your honest description of the product and a price that was worth it." Cinder

Great for listening to Talk Radio, NPR, Music and Sports

The EP has a wide bass and treble adjustment range for defined music and voice reproduction. A large, 5-inch speaker is combined with a hi-fidelity amplifier and a "Music/Voice" enhancement dial to give extra clarity to AM programs.

Just received this great radio in the mail this week and have been enjoying it ever since. Tried three other radios with built in AM/FM antenna and they all failed to get reception of NPR, classical radio stations, and no AM stations at all.....This radio solved all this.....Before I could not get any AM stations, now I can listened to several. T Overton

I'm not one to leave reviews, and this may well be my first, but this radio is awesome. I bought it strictly for the AM function in anticipation of baseball season (GO BRAVES!). I can now pick up stations at my house that I can't even pick up in the city on my vehicle radio. I now have ESPN Radio and all of the stations that broadcast the Braves. No more GameDay Audio for this baseball fan. J Wilburn

For very weak AM stations you can fine tune our built-in Twin Coil Ferrite AM Antenna.

The fine tuning feature is great for singling out a station when there is interference from a nearby frequency. For instance, when I need 1630 out of Augusta, GA there is bleedover from a gospel station in Columbia, SC and I can twist the little knob and it will take out the gospel. It's also got this nifty music/voice knob that allows me to take a lot of the whistle/whine out of the broadcast when it's just people talking. J Wilburn

The EP is a true "analog" radio with needle and dial tuning, so there will be some variance in the accuracy of the needle and dial. We are constantly working on improving the accuracy of the EP while still maintaining the great reception and reasonable price, but if you need pinpoint precision we would recommend one of our digital radios.

Weight: 4.5 lbs. Size: 11.4" W x 7.3" H x 2.75" D.

Twin Coil Ferrite (TCF) AM Fine Tuning

The AM fine tuning consists of extra circuitry and 2 extra coils around the ferrite antenna. It should be called the Quad Coil™. It is a new experimental design. You do not have to adjust the TCF knob from the default position to receive excellent AM performance. The TCF knob does have some effect for fine tuning and it will have various and perhaps curious results depending on the strength of the AM signal and the time of day. You should find the EP is one of the best radios you have used on AM.

Old school!
Picking up AM radio signals for sports and news. The radio is so sensitive that I was getting co-channel interference from stations 100's of miles apart!
Great on Batteries!!!
So sensitive that I'm able to pick up 60 Hz from nearby power pole..
Distant FM stations somewhat dictated by atmospheric conditions. Often flooded out by adjacent local channels.
Best Uses
Geat for AM talk shows
Use Terk AM advange to enhance signal.
I finally found a radio with an Old School feel. With a little tweeking you can sniff out lots of AM stations. Might buy another one!!

A really quality, nice, simple radio
This radio has great sound and you don't need a master's degree to understand how to use it. Technology has advanced so much that many electronics devices have become too complex. This radio is very easy to use like the ones in the 60's and 70's. The sound is great and it is easy to unplug and take to different locations without a headache. I love it.!
No cons for me.
Best Uses
Everyday use in many locations inside and outside.
Very affordable, very good sound, easy to use which is what I was looking for.

In the office
At the office we have been live streaming music until a recent computer upgrade. We now keep losing the signal. I decided to order the CCradio which arrived in two days and brought it to work. I have had trouble in the past with radio's not getting good reception in the office, so I was a little skeptical. It works well with pretty good reception... It also doesn't take up too much room.

Excellent Radio
I own a SW Pocket and thought it was a great radio (it is) but I just got my CCRadio-EP and am blown away. I'm not sure how it does it but it picks up AM stations better than the SW Pocket. The sound is richer and more robust and the fine tuning options are fantastic. This is easily the best radio I've ever owned.

I own several radios @ various locations in my home. This radio is at my bedside. It is, by far, the best radio I own. I live some distance from the AM station I listen to predominately. This unit really drags in the signal the best I've ever heard. I strongly recommend it for those who are radio "junkies" like I am. It is simply the best I have ever owned.

I'm a software engineer and nerd. I love new and exciting technology. Having said all that, this is kinda the opposite. Not because it's not good or exciting, but because it's a simple, old-fashioned radio that just does "radio" really well. I have mine for a couple of years now and love it. I love it for the same reason I love my mechanical analog watch. If you're looking for a top-quality radio without all the fancy stuff, this is it.

Recently purchased this model. Over the years I have purchased at least 5 other radios from C.Crane, so I feel I have good background with their products.Generally I am satisfied with this particular radio.BUT, one very huge deficiency is the inaccuracy of the dial as it relates to the red peg and the numerals on the dial. You can NOT even tell where you are on the frequency scale when searching for your favorite station. The ONLY way I can find a specific LOCAL station is to listen and wait for them to broadcast their station ID. Not sure why C.Crane is having so much problem in the tech side of this critical feature. I do know I expect better. As a reference, once I FIND the station I'm seeking I see that the red peg is approximately 1/4" to the right of the actual numeric reference number on the dial for that particular frequency. The radio does have good reception and speaker clarity, once you find a station. It would have been nice if they would have built the voltage converter INTO the radio body. I'm kind of baffled that they DO provide the voltage reduction plug in unit as a separate item. It would seem, to this layman, that the radio's case is large enough that they could have just built it in. And it's hard to believe there would be much production cost difference.Overall I DO RECOMMEND this radio. It is durable and sound quality is excellent.

I highly recommend this product. I had one problem with the AC adapter when I was getting a static or buzzing sound. I called support and the sent me a new adapter and that fixed the problem.

Penny for penny this might be the best radio purchase I have ever made. It has super strong AM performance - so much so it can be legitimately used as a DX. The FM is excellent and the sound from the speaker is deep and true. The radio is simply designed but with every extra feature one could want in a portable radio. My only wish is that we could start manufacturing radios like this again in America....but still this is another C Crane home run!!Larry Croft Martinez GA

My CCR-EP (Orphan) arrived Saturday. This is a very fine radio with easy tuning and back light dial. The EPRadio is like the GE Super II but lighter and smaller and great sound quality also very sensitive and selective. I am very happy with the CCRadio-EP! Great experience ordering from your company! I will be ording more items from you soon.

  • Why did we build the CCRadio-EP?

This is a bit embarrassing, but we built it for my mother. I asked her one day if she was enjoying her CCRadioPlus I gave her. With a little prodding she looked at me in a way only a mother can and she said: "I don’t like all the buttons". About six months later a customer came in the store in a focused rush and asked for a radio "without all the buttons... just a regular radio". I knew at that moment we had to build the EP knowing full well that success was to be measured by customer satisfaction and not necessarily money (most people have no idea of the actual cost to develop a new product, even a simple radio). I told him to come back in a year or two. He probably thought I was blowing smoke!

Now back to my mother. I know she is smart. She drove safely until she was over 90 and she still continues to watercolor on a limited basis. She did not start painting until she was well into her 80’s. The point is my mother did not want to spend her valuable time learning some sequence of buttons perpetrated by a somewhat insensitive electronics expert.

We’ve had a great response to this radio. One of the best was a call from a woman in charge of a music department at a university. She said she was prepared to get ripped off with the purchase of the CCRadio-EP but was wildly surprised at the audio quality alone. We have received numerous letters written in long hand in appreciation of the EP. If you’re looking for a simple radio with good performance and a reasonable price, the CCRadio-EP is an excellent choice.

  • How does the new CCRadio-EP compare with the CCRadio-2?

The CCRadio-EP has excellent AM reception almost as good as our CCRadio-2. The EP brings simple joy back to radio listening.

  • How long will a fresh set of D-size Alkaline batteries power the radio?

A set of D Alkaline batteries rated at 21000 mAh would provide roughly 300 hours of runtime. This is based on AM band usage and if the radio is played at a moderate volume level with the display light off.

  • What are the numbers at the top of the display used for (0-10)?

They're used as an indicator to help locate a frequency.

  • I am experiencing bleed over from competing stations on AM; is there any way to resolve this?

Try nulling out the signal by turning the radio in a slightly different direction. You can also modify the amount of signal being let in by adjusting the tone knob from Music to Voice setting. Lastly, try adjusting the Twin Coil Ferrite tuner knob.

  • I am completely unable to receive AM on my CCRadio-EP; is something set wrong?

First, check the back of the radio and make sure the Internal/External switch is set to Internal. Next check the Twin Coil Tuning Knob to make sure it is in the center position.

  • This WiFi Antenna is hands down the best. It allows me to connect to a business almost a half mile away. Two months time and this baby paid for itself. I am a very happy with my purchase.

  • This is an excellent internet radio. I have had the unit playing constantly from the time I received it. Excellent sound for such a small unit and the remote works wonderfully.
    — James H., Richmond, BC
  • Good sound, lightweight and comfortable; not too tight on the head. I like one feature; it doesn't tell you where to place the speakers, left side or right side.
    — Harry W., Manassas, VA
  • I purchase this product specifically for AM recordings and it has worked superbly. I wanted to wait awhile before I gave my opinion on the product. It has worded exactly as advertised and more.
    — Jack L., San Pedro, CA
  • Very nice, economical home lighting. If you're used to the white light of fluorescent bulb replacements, these will offer the same type with no toxic ingredients or damaging UV radiation.
    — Gary B., San Francisco, CA
  • This antenna does work well; however placement and the shape you have it bent into is very important. I live about 70 miles away from Toronto and receive a lot of Toronto FM stations static free with the FM reflect.
    — Thomas S., Buffalo, NY
  • I'm not sure how I gone this far in life without it. I just love it. The best sound ever from an AM radio.
    — James G., Springfield, MA
